If a cop is making $60K in SW Florida, is that pretty decent?

That depends. Do you have kids and what's your lifestyle like?
No kids and a wife who works also. That's pretty good pay.
If you have kids and your wife works making $40k then you might be hurting for money.
Overall your making more than the average cop. Bit it relly all depends. If you have been in law enforcement for awhile and your making that much then it depends on how you feel.

60k is nothing to brag about. I know deputies who make $45 K and then with detail money they make over $65k a year and still are struggling.

Broward county starting pay $44,744

Miami-Dade Police $47,025

Jacksonville Sheriff - $39,324 after 6 years of service $54,696. Not including education pay, shift differential pay, holiday pay etc. http://www.joinjso.com/careers/police_officers.php

Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office - $44,881.00

Martin County Sheriff's Office - $42,120.00

Palm Beach County Sheriff - $47,220

Pinellas County - $41,284

Sarasota County Sheriff - $40,000 Salary adjusted up to $44,995 for approved/accepted prior experience.

Gainesville Police - Certified Police Officer Starting Salary
Minimum of Range (FOP Pay Plan): $41,938.94
Maximum Starting Pay: $47,450.21

They make ALOT of money

This does not include all the police agencies.
This does not include the better benefits.
This does not include all of the Sheriffs Offices.
This does not include experience incentives.

And to think these are just starting salaries. Most officers with Charlotte County Sheriff's Office are still making $40,000 or less and have been here 6 years.

I know a few people that have been here 10 years and making less than $50,000

I know people who have been here for 25 years and are making less than $50,000.
