The title of the head of the U.S. Secret Service was changed during the tenure of Jim Rowley.

He was the last Chief of the Secret Service and it's first Director. There are those among us who lament the change, which was intended to elevate the prestiege of the position to more closely approximate that of other federal law enforcement agencies, which had Directors. There is something attractive to many of the old hands about the somewhat archaic title of Chief.

In any event, Director Rowley was the subject of an Oral History Interview, of the type now being undertaken by the Sentinels of the Service (see the announcement about the Sentinels on this site) and that interview is archived at the Truman Presidential Library.

It can be viewed at the web sitehttp://www.trumanlibrary.org/oralhist/rowley_j.htm .

Enjoy!

Incidentally, I have made a contribution to the Sentinels at the address listed in the above referenced posting, and I encourage others to do the same.
