Nice to see........finally.
Its nice to finally see a media outlet of any kind running this story. Its too bad that it isn't a more widely circulated one like the Times or the the Trib.
Of course, this is not news to any of us at the PD. We've been whining that Go was still driving a vehicle leased by the Police Dept ever since he left. Rumors are that his office furniture is also leased with money from the police budget. There's even been a rumor that he still has a police radio in his possession.
Now, the real question here is why, in a time of budget cuts and stricter spending, is the police department still footing the bill for Go's car and possibly even his office furniture?
The number one responsibility of government is public safety. The police department and the fire department are the two most important departments in the city. Even at the expense of all other city services, police and fire have to be funded in order to maintain basic order and safety to the public.
That being said, I think that the tax paying citizens of the City of St. Petersburg would be very displeased to learn that a notable portion of the dollars that the city has collected to spend on police services are going, not to hire more cops or better equip the ones we have, but to make sure that Go has a shiney new car to drive.
Now why don't you see that story running in the Times?

It's all coming out of the same pocket. Okay, City says put the car back in the police budget. City says we will lease your car out of the City budget. City says - PD you need to trim your budget by, oh, I dunno, the cost of a lease vehicle.

Sorry my friend ... but in this City It doesn't come out of the same pocket !
It's called cooking the books up north.
Assets earmarked for midtown would never provide results,
Unless Peter is robbed to pay Paul.
An UNMARKED car ?
Accounted through another department?
Who would have noticed the $$$$ coming out of PD funds ?
This is Just a tip of the iceberg....
Been going on for many Baker Years.
It's called : CREATIVE FINANCINING.
Lots of shady deals within the City
Screw Florida SunShine laws should be the City's motto..
