It think the problems of the 187's in SF stem from the lack of support for the Patrol Division. The staffing is way below normal levels in ALL levels of the PD. This situation has been allowed to happen over several years not only to the PD but to the FD as well. The City now bugets our Department at our current staffing levels, not what we are suppose to have. In years past, when staffing was below the minimum, they used that money for OT to supplement the Department staffing and for special events. They send the money that formally was ours and is now being sent to support the City's social agenda. I'm all for doing the social services but not at the cost of public safety. Let's be honest, public safety is not job #1 for our politicial leaders.

Thats because the mayor, the police commission and the command staff really dont care solving crime, but about looking good politically. The department is in a slow downward spiral. There is very little hope on the horizon. What a shame, the once great SFPD has been destroyed by idiots!

You have some good recruits coming thru and soon enough things will be on the up and up. Stay strong.

Having a good batch of recruits will not help this department. Our problem isn't with the pattrol division. It is with the command staff. Until we get a Chief that can do the job properly and for all of the right reasons, we will be in a decline. It's a shame when Fred Lau can be considered as doing a "good" job by comparsion :-(

Thats so true. Good recruits wont help and considering the last few classes I don't know how good they will be. We have to get a chief and a command staff that wants to do police work again, not a bunch of wimpy, community service twits who have no idea what police work is!

You have a Police commission who hates Cops (Joe Marshall AKA Street Soldiers), residents who just want to be left alone to smoke crack and shoot each other, a media which loves to catch any cop with his/her pants down, Brass who are weak and ineffective, homeless advocates who file occ complaints at will, OCC and MCD who are only there to slay cops and then you wonder why Officers don't want to be 10-8? The recruits are only as good as the FTO's and all of the current FTO's I have seen are just as bad as the sworn non-cops at 850. Hey the good thing is that you can hide out and work 10-B, just don't make Heather or her butt-kissers angry or else you will be relegated to a foot beat at Double Rock.

You nailed it Catch Me. chief fong is the most ineffective chief ever. She is so far over her head, but will not admit it. She has surrounded her self with butt kissing, chickenshits who can't or won't make any real decisions. Homicides are out of control, and she lies to the media saying the officers are out in force. Bullshit! No matter how you move Tac and Specialists around, it dosn't do any good. Without the support of the command staff, the community (black community) and an out of control occ and police commission, things will only get worse. Its pathetic that mayor newsom is too stupid to get a real chief of police for us. But at least there is 10-B and 4 day weekends....sad, I used to love doing crime fighting

Chief Fong is attempting to execute her authority but all she ends up doing is consistantly abusing it. She goes out as the Mayor's puppet, calls it a "Dark Day in the SFPD" and then slings accusations of racism amongst other names. Now she is being sued...again...for RACIAL DISCRIMINATION, and, a little birdie tells me that Cohen and Lewis are about to drop another bomb on her...It seems as though the State Attorney General may be brought in to do one or more criminal investigations into Chief Fong's recent abusive activity...criminal activity. This is supposed to possibly include another new member of her command staff. What a surprise!

Go get 'em boys. Be relentless! She is.

I hope that is not just another rumor because it would be great to see the brass get investigated. It would finally open some eyes!
