    Academy

I am about to go through the police academy at the Saint Petersburg college, and I would like as much advice as possible. What should I expect? It’s my understanding that out of 32 recruits, about 10 drop/fail. Is this mostly because of bad attitudes and lack of physical fitness? Should I get a 19 or a 17 glock firearm? How are the exams each week structured? Are the instructors there to assist, help, and guide the students, or are they known to be unhelpful. Do they do PT at the end of the day, and do all the students take showers (I was told they have showers there, a bit odd?). Where will I be trained to use my firearm? If anyone could answer any of these questions, please do. I would really appreciate ANY advice I can get. Thanks!

    Response to "Advice"

Dear "Advice-Seeker": Forget the academy...go to college and get a degree in Political Science AND Criminology. Why work in law enforcement as a foot soldier when you can become their bosses instead ? Your income will be greater without risking your life trying to apprehend the ever constant flow of low-lifes that fill our State. Besides...what no one here or elsewhere is telling you...is that at every turn...any screwup on your part..however slight...can or usually will...result in an Internal Affairs Investigation that will blemish your career file and end your law enforcement ambitions in a heartbeat. That is how "they"...the men and women WITH DEGREES... get rid of the law enforcement officers the brass doesn't like...yep..they'll pad your file and soon you'll be forced to look for a new career...after wasting all those years. Don't walk on that shakey ground [emphasis added]...become their bosses instead. Print this response out...and save it Mr. Advice-Seeker....so one day you'll see that my advice is the best advice anyone has ever given you about law enforcement.

ps..Have you noticed how not one person who regularly posts on this site...responded to your valid question. Take that as an OMEN-of-things-to-come. Get a Degree !
