    2020 Hiring?

Hello folks! I am FDLE LEO certified, no experience though. Looking to join a police agency and do my years. Are you folks hiring? What’s the pay like? And what’s the work schedule like? Does your days off rotate? I’m Tobacco free and I’m in good shape and able to complete a PAT of PEB. Thanks in advance!

Save yourself the headache now and apply with Tampa. Temple terrace pay is ok but unless you are one of the chosen few, you will get treated like shit. Spare yourself and go to Tampa.

TT is a good agency, as in they will pay you well, offer benefits which are great if you're single, not-so-great if you have a family, and a good retirement. Equipment is good and the City likes us. There's some very good folks who work here. If you avoid the BS, come to work, do your job well and go home, you'll be just fine. Everyone likes to say the magic phrase "go to TPD!" as if it's simple to do. TPD is probably one of the best LE jobs in the State and they don't hire just anybody. I've seen some real squared away guys get turned down, and some real ghetto losers get picked up. I'm talking folks that, if I saw them behind the counter of McDonalds, I wouldn't trust them to make my coffee without spitting in it. Come to TT for a couple years, keep your nose clean, and if you want to "go to TPD" do it afterwards. The grass is not always greener, I promise you.

I'll piggy back and say I agree with most everything he said, except for the benefits. They're terrible. You will pay very little out of pocket for insurance for yourself, however if you're looking to support one or two more people about 50% of your take-home will be going there. Pay is decent. We are the second highest paid in the county, starting at 51000 i believe. Max out on patrol at 79000. If you want an easy retirement gig look at Seminole PD. They're glorified security that starts at $60000 and the casino wants them neither seen or heard. However they don't have a pension, so 401k or bust.

As one of the former TTPD cops who made the switch to Tampa, I would like to give an opinion on TTPD.

TTPD is a great little agency. If you start your career at TTPD you will learn a lot. Of course it has its problems like anywhere else.

The pay and benefits aren't the greatest, but you will have nice equipment and a decent pension.

There are some fantastic officer's at TTPD, And if small changes were made I believe TTPD could slowly take back its reputation as a no-nonsense agency.

TTPD will always have a special place in my heart. There are a lot of great people who work there.

To everyone at TTPD. Stay safe.

    Respectfully,

    Leigh Smith.

Yeah it’s so good he jumped ship ASAP for real dept and real pay. If you worked for another dept you would know you don’t learn anything at Ttpd it’s a mess. That is why all senior officers left and it’s so young.. again benefits for someone w dependent are impossible to live on. Cool vest to sit in front of gas station in.
