BLM/Antifa protesters in Sarasota are not organic. They are paid communists who seek an insurrection through rioting and civil disobedience. Mr. Tom Knight's choice to align himself with rioters is unacceptable. In Sarasota County, we support patriots and law abiding citizens. We do not support BLM rioters.

If Mr. Tom Knight is seeking political support to run for the office of Sarasota County Commissioner, then that idea needs to be tabled, effective immediately. Knight said he resigned as CEO from First Step of Sarasota because he could not handle the stress and pressure of the job (or words to that effect). Thus, Knight’s next endeavor, to step into the role of a commissioner, is a second step in the wrong direction. Knight was unable to handle being the CEO of First Step, so taking a second step as a commissioner is a complete misstep for himself, as well as for taxpayers. It is an irresponsible idea, but it is also status quo for Knight.

Mr. Knight, please do not drink yourself to sleep each night because it is bad for your liver. It has a cumulative effect. Instead, focus on healthy habits. Have you considered volunteering for free to the charity of your choice? You can basically set your own hours. Or is volunteering for free – to help others – beneath your dignity? It’s not about the money or prestige, Tom. Instead, it’s about service to others – and not service-to-self. Seeking public recognition and public pay is very different from doing charity work for free. Or do you need the money from taxpayers?
