Why would you think its bad. Several Troopers have already left to Sheriff's Offices. Sarasota for a fact has hired around 10 in the past two years. You get a raise and the only thing you're changing is your uniform and car. Pension,Paycheck, set hours more opportunity for advancement in Rank,Specialized units. How is this bad??? We have FDLE for a State LE agency and the Sheriffs already do the rest. The Patrol consistently for decades shows their lack of compassion for their employees. They will not change. Its a Training ground for Sheriff's and Police. The FHP is on its way out. Its only a matter of time.

Amen brother!!!!!! Well spoken and articulate. You must have already left. I'm on my way out now. The rest of these Kool-Aid drinkers don't realize the best thing ever happen is that the patrol be ended. The colonel we got now isn't any better than in Colonel we've ever had in the past. I'm going to beat them to the punch, I'm going to be wearing green soon.

If the Highway Patrol just focused on the highway it would be good. I think what would happen is the local agencies would just absorb the funding and not work on fixing the problems. I feel that they aren't doing their part on the roads they handle. All of this posturing is upsetting when we all know the answer. FHP needs a step plan to keep qualified employees.

This is just Gualtieri and Judd's hatred of FHP showing and is not going to happen. Two hardheaded control freaks who hire our troopers whenever they get a chance.

Well I think it will happen, the FHP will have to cut those positions. Once other large counties see that this is an option, they'll too will jump aboard. Slowly but surely the FHP will be removed from the state. In the states eyes its less liability, equipment etc.
Unlike FWC, we are not untouchable or protected.

FHP is not going anywhere. There are over 60 Sheriff in Florida. Not all of them like to see Troopers in their counties, they wish we would be abolished so they could have total control, other Sheriff like FHP which in fact are the majority. The state of Florida will not get rid of FHP, the patrol is their Togo body when disasters strikes, when they need law enforcement escorts, etc. If the patrol wouldn't exist, the sheriff would assume total control of the county and there is nothing that Tallahasee would be able to do or tell them, like closing major roads etc. The patrol is a useful tool for the State of Florida, its like having a servant, why would you fire them? It ain't going to happen.
Every year one of these Sheriff file a bill to diminish the patrols' ability, anyone can file a bill, making them go thru is what counts. The DHSMV ED has a lot of saying in it, this bill is a dislocated idea from the Pinellas Sheriff. He can hope and dream. If the bill would have been filed by the Florida Sheriff Association, then be worried.

Your a little to confident, the bill is being pushed by the speaker of the house, with support by both Pinellas and Polk Counties sheriffs to "try" the program. That's the selling point is to "give it a try". So this isn't just one sheriff, it has the support of the speaker, two sheriffs and the sheriffs association. Again, don't be to confident.
