    Bill Text

Take a breath. This opens a link to the proposed subcommittee bill. It is not bad like it's been misconstrued. The FHP would have to approve of it and it sounds like it would employ troopers with the funds given to the county, kind of like I-4 and turnpike funds do. But it ensures coverage solely to those roads within Pinellas and Polk. I doubt the leaders would say OK to it though. No worries.

    What did you read?

I read that they are assessing whether it would be effective to transfer the duties of the highway patrol to the sheriffs. In fact it says that right at the beginning. So, it's a clear attempt to disband the Highway Patrol, just at a small level. This is no "restrict your boundaries" this is get rid of you.

It also says that in the contract the sheriffs would be required to hire the officers of the highway patrol unless they choose to remain.

Read and be mindful, this is blatant attempt to destroy the highway patrol.

Here to clarify "copied from the bill"

2)(a) The Community Highway Safety Pilot Program is
67 created for the purpose of assessing the viability and
68 effectiveness of transferring duties from the Division of
69 Highway Patrol to the sheriffs. The pilot program shall be
70 conducted in Pinellas County and Polk County and implemented
71 through contract as described in this subsection.
