I will compliment her and her fellow commissioners movement to rid the city of the pi$$ poor management. But in reality to straighten things out in the PD, CM has to go also, he is just as complacent in the antics as KV was. Under VC rule this will never happen. The taxpayers are starting to see just what is going on here so expect changes come the election cycle. There is a younger more astute taxpayer out there and they expect accountability and fiscal management. For example the new ghost black explores for the PD, what 7 of them, all decked out what equipped 40 grand plus each, they replaced the new marked explores which were less than a year old, why ??? 250-300 grand spent on new police vehicles to replace the already new police vehicles, is this fiscal management, I think not. What has the mayor done to stop the discrimination against women in the PD ????? One long time sgt promoted to commander and only because no one else wanted it, no females on set team, narcotics and no female sergeants. Only the good old boys. She was in office when KV went on his firing forcing out binge, did she step up or at least have Lear intercede, hmmm no. PS this site is anything we want it to be like it or not. Concern or ??? Compared to what? So are you telling me the highest priority if traffic? Then there should be proof? How many crashes, how many traffic homicides annually? Toss some number out. Then show us your UCRs stats. How many unsolved burglaries are there right now? How many warrants are in the city right now? Just guessing that your number one call is noise and disturbances. Traffic might be a concern, but certainly not a priority.

Crashes under $500?
Speeding tickets issued?
Analytics from remote speed sensors?

Just because people call in traffic complaints that does not make it a priority. The answer to those who call should be no we are not responding to that person speeding, we are busy doing real police stuff.

I am a citizen and the traffic unit has NEVER been on my list of NPPD needs. I want a healthy respectable fully staffed Police department.. Until we have that, i think we stop with the shiney toy collections and focus on fixing what is broken.

Number 1, Experienced Professional and Ethical Leadership
Number 2, Officers, we need enough oficers that our current officers arent burning out.
Number 3, Reevaluation of the Patrol K9s, the money to be saved here could buy lots of shiney new things instead paying out lawsuits and repeated hits on reputation.

Bring on Chief Kharma to give us a fresh new perspective and an honest look as to where we are. This crap of 'we are the safest city, crime is down, doesnt always align to the tales told when we want $$$ to 'Fed up' the dept. well I hate to tell you this but you are misinformed. We had a traffic unit up until maybe 2015 when KV disbanded it, because he wanted it restructured into a special enforcement team aka street crimes unit which did assume the responsibility of traffic, which they did, unmarked suv's and Taurus. Every patrol car was also equpted with front and rear radar. Now they re establish the traffic unit, so what does the set team do, they have what 8 officers. The justification for the traffic unit was in part, to enforce the speed on 75, which is the highway patrols job, so to sum it up, a new traffic unit was not needed, the traffic enforcement was adequately covered and as KV and CM has told us many times we have no business on 75. And yes the new 7 vehicle did replace the less than year old marked explores these 7 officers were assigned to, the replaced vehs sit in the lot. As stated they wanted flashy semi unmarked vehicles, toys

remember just a few short months ago several agencies decided to do away with unmarked units for traffic safety and due to the number of imposters out there and crimes committed advised people to not stop for them, instead call the police. Now we have the NEW traffic unit with the semi transparent ghost markings, which to the average motorist will look like just any other explorer. Does this give the PD some sort of advantage or disadvantage. Most likely the latter. Is there a need for vehs that deceive the public. No. These black vehicles are not clearly visible as police vehicles, unless the light shines directly on the decal graphics. They are not marked in the front or the rear. only on the sides, no light racks to warn motorists etc. The set team vehicles are all unmarked, but there mission is different that just traffic. It is a clear proven fact that visibility is a deterrent. How many of you have seen a marked veh on the side of the road and slowed down and how many have seen the sheriffs white unmarked on 41 and rode right past it before u knew what it was. The goal of traffic safety to educate and be seen not deceive and write tickets. Deception is only one tool used in police work but not in traffic enforcement. So what if these vehs light up like xmas, how many imposters have the same set ups. All that needed to be done is simply mark the marked units as traffic safety, that's it. We didn't need expensive toys when the necessary tools were already here. But hey Venice has one, FHP has a couple CCSO has one so NPPD has 7. My question is so much money was wasted, showing off, we have better toys, at an outrageous cost to the taxpayers. This is just a small example of the fiscal irresponsibility committed by admin on a daily basis. Now they want to go to Canada and purchase a 150 grand SWAT vehicle which will be used what once a year. It drives down the street and parks in a driveway, provides for no tactical advantage other than psychological intimidation. We can get a military MWRAP for FREE, but its not costing the taxpayers big bucks and it is not a shiny new toy. These unmarked black explorers are a liability, they serve no purpose other than to show off, at our expense. They are not a deterrent simply because they are designed to not be visible. Put 7 marked traffic units out there, it will be a deterrent , it will serve a simple purpose, high visibility to deter traffic infractions and criminal activity. Honesty, ethics, fairness, accountability the present leadership is just as culpable as KV was, in addition the business manager who actually runs the show is vindictive, fall on her bad side and your gone, that's how much power a civilian clerk has in this dept. She holds the pay strings and the secrets. You can have your flashy vehicles and honor guard and blue striped pants but all that amounts to nothing is your leadership is a failure, this place runs on lies and deceit and anyone who thought it ended with KV and MP gone is wrong.

Move on please? Thats rich.. ive been hearing that same damn message for 4.5 years. If you think anyone with half a brain and one eye doesnt see and know the fragile state we are in on a myriad of fronts, well you are delusional. The idea that you think it is even possible to turn it around over night tells me you have no real understanding of what is going on here or lots to learn about turning things around. It takes time and work.. hard work, consistent improvement.. rebuilding trust, did i mention hard work... not a bright smile and a photo op.
