In time for Christmas, 2002, Murray Cohen & Maria Amurrio landed at El Alto International Airport in La Paz, Bolivia. Alighting from the plane, Murray felt the chill of temperatures that were above-freezing. To Maria, Bolivia being her home country, this was old hat. Since seasons are reversed, Bolivia’s summertime was underway. Murray, a seventy year old, and Maria, nearly half his age, came to celebrate the holidays with Maria’s family and to join in a church ceremony, the significance of which was confusing to Murray. In Bolivia, marriage is a two part transaction. After the church ceremony, the union requires civil process before it becomes a legal marriage.

If it weren't so tragic, this has all the elements of a thrilling crime story: Wealth, love, poison, arson, duplicity, and an organized plan, that drove the victim, almost 30 years older than the slayer, into his grave and killer Maria Amurrio, protected by "the thin blue line," into a million dollars.

His first experience in Bolivia, Murray was jubilant, reflecting on marriage with this bilingual bombshell whom he had come to love and whom he believed loved him.

Maria Amurrio is a product of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) who followed history's path from Bolivia. Her law enforcement background consisted of a shadowy world of agents and double agents. In 1974 at 19, one short year after formation of the DEA, Maria joined the National Bolivian Police, where she worked as a Police Officer, a Special Narcotics Agent in conjunction with DEA and an assistant to the country's Deputy Police Chief, "El Commandante," as she testified. To stop coca production and trans-border flights, DEA lavished money on Bolivia and its officials.

But on July 17, 1980 Luis Garcia Meza Tajada took power during the "Cocaine Coup," so named because it had the backing of narco-terrorists. Supported by Nazi officer Klaus Barbie and other nefarious people, the Garcia Meza regime outlawed all political parties, exiled opposition leaders, repressed unions, muzzled the press and killed anyone who threatened it. On uncorroborated information, the DEA brought Amurrio to the U.S. and put her to work in Northern New Jersey, where its undercover operations needed agents.

Flashing forward to current events, Amurrio has worked as a well-paid, DEA undercover informant for the vaunted Delta Force, helping bring in hundreds of thousands, if not millions, to Sarasota County in legal drug busts. She's tight with law enforcement, as evidenced by her first probate appearance, where she was "protected" by a bevy of officers who whisked her out a back door after the hearing and with whom she is heard on a first name basis. She's also on a first name basis with court personnel, including judges, before whom she appeared in her former, full-time position as Probation Officer for the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.

Amurrio was introduced to Murray by former, Sarasota girl friend Ronnie Rose. who, after his death, accompanied Amurrio into Probate Court, participating actively in her case. Rose had failed to repay Murray for his down payment on her Sarasota home.

At the time, here's how Murray described himself: "“I’m Murray, 6 foot, blue eyes, brown hair, ns (non-smoker) and a nice guy. I am strong, caring and gentle, successful, emotionally secure. Happy and handsome. I did a lot in my life. I’ve been there, done it - and at times had it my way. I am not afraid to communicate or share. I have an artistic spirit and a passionate heart. And am a sensual romantic lover."

Presently, the couple had two situations: Bolivian paperwork and a church celebration with Maria’s family. Murray had left the planning to Maria, who had a reputation for getting things done as a celebrated, confidential informant for the DEA. Murray and Maria went to the seat of government and answered a questionnaire. It began with names, birth dates, countries of origin. When it came to previous marriages, Maria said they had both been single, an omen of ill-tidings.

In fact, they had both been married, but Maria had an organized plan, knowing she could get away with deceit in Bolivia, and no one in Sarasota, Amurrio's circle of influence, would question her fraud. She was right: the Sarasota probate Court later awarded her, a non-spouse, Murray's million dollar estate, taking GrandSon Ryan's college fund and full equity in the Siesta Key home. Murray neither spoke nor understood Spanish. He was content to leave matters in Maria’s hands while sugar plums danced in his head. Not for long though. As the family's Web Site records: "Murray Cohen died pleading for an ambulance on the floor of his Sarasota home on Siesta Key on January 13, 2003."

The church ceremony was a glorious affair, as Murray contemplated his future with Maria. What a con! To Murray, the "wedding" had the imprimatur of authenticity, because the few members of Maria’s family turned out dressed and in proper attendance. According to our investigation in La Paz, the wedding party included a drug smuggler and a murderer. Naive Murray delighted in anticipation of married life, the reason he had ventured so far. Dreaming the fantasies, older men have about much younger women, Murray was ebullient and looking forward to consummation. Maria had handled it all, and they were married. he thought. Or were they? Wound up, they would not be married until after Murray’s death. Only in Bolivia!

Not long after arriving, Murray began feeling short of breath. He figured that altitude was to blame; El Alto International Airport stands at 13,313 feet. As year’s end approached, his condition in La Paz worsened. Pressed by shortness of breath and added stomach trouble, on January 1, 2003, Murray decided unilaterally, he’d fly back to Sarasota, Florida, no ifs, ands or buts. This time Maria dutifully followed him. Where he had taken control, he thought Maria’s come along spoke volumes for her love. Murray, who had made his way up a freight company to top salesman, was guided by the ethics he had learned along life's way. He failed to realize that he was out of his league. Maria was operating by jungle rules.

About 2 weeks back on Siesta Key, still sadly without marital consummation, Murray fell deathly ill. By the time fire rescue arrived, Murray, sporting a blue face, had stopped breathing. Maria tells several conflicting stories surrounding Murray’s passing. In bed, she awoke to find him dead. She seated him in his favorite chair and brought him coffee. When she returned, he was dead. Those are but two of Maria’s varying explanations.

Crime scene examiners combed the area, coming up with three, unwritten vials containing pills, identified as Indocin, Percodan and Corazol. Not anyone in the investigation knew Corazol. What was it and who prescribed it? Shortly, discovery was made that Corazol was a poison, administered to rats in studies for cures of epilepsy. Necessary for research, Corazol brings on seizures. Maria explained to police that Murray’s physician up north had prescribed it.

When questioned, Murray’s physician said that he never heard of Corazol. Indeed, further inquiry revealed that Corazol was banned in the United States, an illegal substance. Corazol is manufactured in Bulgaria and Bolivia. A study of medical information names Corazol's "kindling period," that is, continual dosing develops immunity but a 3 week period between dosing, at least with rats -- there are no studies with humans, is when it’s most effective. Just about 3 weeks had passed between Murray’s shortness of breath in Bolivia and his blue face at death evidencing suffocation. Unsuccessful poisoning Murray in Bolivia, Amurio waited out Corazol’s 3 week "kindling period" and poisoned him in Sarasota.

The other two drugs in plain vials, while popular in the U.S., were not prescribed by Murray’s doctors either. Maria had concocted the three, drug ****tail, because Indocin, an arthritic drug, and Percodan, a pain killer, both have the side effect of shortness of breath. Corazol was a clever poison wielded by a pro in as much as there are no known tests for its detection. The three, drug, lethal ****tail was resourceful; Maria had pulled off Murray's murder presumably without leaving traceable evidence in his body.

Trouble came during the 911 call when Murray emerged from unconsciousness and began to speak. The 911 call evidences her frustration when she screams out: "Give up." Why would she do that with an open telephone? First, the phone was 17 feet away from the crime scene, which found Maria between an impossible rock and a hard spot. With fire rescue racing on the way and Murray talking, Maria was frozen with fear for being discovered. Instead of CPR and mouth-to-mouth, where the victim is on his back, Murray was found on his stomach. (Amurrio had faked CPR.) Foot prints were branded on his back, showing how Maria stomped on him to knock his wind out. As it was, Murray expired only seconds before help arrived, although Maria announced at the time that Murray had been dead for forty minutes. Amurrio simply ran out of time to discard the Indocin, Percodan and Corazol. Until now, Maria Amurrio has been protected by the system sworn to prosecute her. The vastly clearer 911 call might make all the difference.

We cannot imagine how Mr. Esdale goes on daily knowing that his father's murderer is being protected by Sarasota Sheriff's Office. Our group is actively forming logistics to take needed action(s) against Amurrio herself for her inhumane and illegal actions. We will take all "accusations" as well as protect you as well as Mr. Esdale from the SSO if needed legally, as well physically (armed). While the sheriff's department is harassing homeless we will fight for justice and take action on behalf of the 941FreedomBrigadiers, May Peace, Liberty, and Pursuit of justice be with you Steve Esdale, and your Father.

This post is anathema to the conduct of Steve Esdale and his supporters. Ours is a lawful crusade for due process in the murder of Murray Cohen. Violence and protection play no part. Ms. Amurrio, you're living in the U.S., not Bolivia. Please brush up on our Constitution to comprehend the limits of lawful conduct in which we're all expected to live. No one ought to get away with murder in our country.

The misinformation from the thread above comes directly from the killer, Maria Amurrio. Hers is a panicked effort to inflame the Board against us messengers and prevent due process. For thinking Leo's, it's doing the opposite, I'm sure.
