Records are unclear, but it is believed that Guido was born in New York City. He was a foundling, having been left on the doorstep of the Sisters of Charity Orphan Asylum, New York City's first Catholic orphanage.

A somewhat homely child, Guido was never adopted but this worked to his advantage with regard to his education because this kept him under Catholic tutelage and he was trained by Jesuit teachers at Fordham University throughout his college career.

Graduating Magna Cum Laude with a double major in Philosophy and in Ethics, Guido felt an unanticipated attraction to a career in law enforcement. He applied for employment at various law enforcement agencies in New York City and was quickly accepted by the New York Police Department.

After successfully completing the Police Academy, during which time Guido demonstrated significant leadership traits, he was assigned to uniformed duties. Earning his detective's gold shield relatively quickly, Guido came to the attention of local Secret Service agents when working a case jointly with that agency.

Guido was recruited by the Secret Service and began his career as an agent in New York City. When the New York Field Office was the featured field office in The Service Star, a photo of Guido demonstrating his athletic prowess on the handball court was featured.

Guido served in the Service with distinction and is now enjoying a well deserved retirement in an undisclosed retirement community where it doesn't snow.

The exploits of SA's Guido Capezzi and Brooks Keller were an inspiration to me in my early days. I hoped to emulate them but only got suspended once.

Brooks Keller stories abound. My favorite was the one about when he was assigned to Paris and Headquarters ordered him to come to Washington. He kept delaying his return and finally Headquarters lost patience with him and ordered him to "take the next available transportation back to Washington."

Instead of going to the airport and taking the next flight, he went to the seaport and took the next cruise ship

.... and walked into the Boss's office in a French Gendarme uniform, or so the story goes. Another great story involves getting unavailable tickets for a Broadway show that left Kissinger and Nancy behind a pillar in the back of the theater while Keller, in top hat and tails with two showgirls, paraded to their seats front row center. The detail leader told us the K looked about to have a stroke. Ah, the good old days are gone forever.

Of course there are lots of stories involving Dr. K as well.

When he was Secretary of State I escorted a Foreign Head of State to Dr. K's office. At the conclusion of the visit Dr. K decided to escort the visitor downstairs, taking the Secretary's private elevator.

We got on the elevator and Dr. K told the operator to take us all the way down to the ground floor without stopping. Unexpectedly, the elevator stopped on the second floor and the doors opened.

Dr. K turned to the visitor and said "The Secret Service does this to me just to show that I am not really in charge."

Worf, you know who I am, I'm in Florida and just haven't bothered to log in with my name.

Question: Were with the Dr. K people during the "taped down lemon squeezer" incident?

    I wasn't, but I heard about it.................

HQ was looking for a reason to step on Walt and they thought they had him. Dr. K was questioned about the incident upon returning to Andrews. When asked about Walt's status, Dr. K said that "Valt can stay on my detail as long as he likes". The wails of anguish from the Penthose were heard all the way down to Andrews. High Fives all around.

Dr. K was held in higher esteem by the agents than most of the Presidents who held office during my career. Too bad he was foreign born and couldn't run for President.

You've got to love a guy who mocked his reputation as a secret swinger by saying “Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac." I think at the time he was dating Jill St. John but I can't find that in his biography or in hers. Ooops. Maybe it was a secret.
