Well, there are good picks. However absent from this list are some people who have merited promotion for years. Nanney and Ubieta!!!! Why are there two continuously passed over??? What is it about them that keeps them from moving up.

    Re: New Promotions

I think the last DD was an agreement between Parker and Rothlein. Whoever didn't get the Director's spot would become the DD.

    Re: New Promotions

Rothlein was made the Deputy to help Parker run the department. This was a decision made by Mayor and recommended by Alvarez. Also Rothlein was in the DROP and only had a couple of years but it was thought that he could help "groom" Parker. Unfortunately Parker chose to ignore and exclude Rothlein from most everything. Rothlein eventually left and the Deputy positiion wasn't filled again.

In the old days there was an unwritten rule about staffing Disrict stations: Smart Major would have a not so smart Captain AND not so Smart Major would have a smart Captain. This "rule" was eventually expanded to almost every dept. assignment. This worked for many years until Parker let the Majors pick their own Captains and we all know how that worked out. It took a couple of years for Alvarez to finally get Parker out. JD will hopefully not follow in Parker's path and will work closely with Perez to permit a smooth transition when JD retires.

    # 305, to a large extent I agree with you although I am not sure exactly what districts your referring to. Your assessment of the previous D and dd does make one a little ill, both were slick and not trustworthy. Alvarez was ethical and always wanted to do the right thing but he had difficulty keeping up with those he had around him, so.

    Re: New Promotions

I just wonder if Perez will be able to get the experience to lead the department when JD leaves.

Get the experience??? This guy barely had ANY experience as a Captain, NO experience as a Major, minimal real police experience, only a few months experience as a Chief, but he did have plenty of experience kissing Jimmy's back side and working for POAT.
