Ok Thanks. I did not realize your fiscal year started in July. I have not seen any openings in the last few weeks but I do check weekly. I'm glad you guys Thanks again for the response. I'm glad you guys didn't lose anything.

[quote:3mlsktyk]You're kidding, right? Apply somewhere with a future.
No I am not. I'm looking for a JOB, I could care less where it is. I need to get some experience and only have 22 left until my certification expires. I don't know what your situation is but you should be thankful your even working.

[quote:3mlsktyk]I don't think he is looking for a job at Wackenhut where you work.
LMAO! Thats pretty good. Your right, I'm not looking to work with him at Wackenhut.[/quote:3mlsktyk]

Okay, I'll hit you with this. No step plan, no merit pay, slim chance of promotion, and no pay raise in 5 years. You can add to that an uncertain future with the way the state is having financial trouble. Now if you want this job because you are retired or simply want to live at the just above the poverty level, fine, no problem. However, if you get on with an SO or a PD you have a chance at getting a livable wage. Even our lieutenants don't make what sergeants make at the SO (note: we don't have sergeants, so lieutenants are first line supervisors). So do what you want to do. It is a free country.

Now don't even think because you have experience with an SO or PD, even though you may of been a detective or supervisor, will help you get promoted. You will be looked upon with scorn by the cronies in this place which will make sure you will never get promoted. Quite a few of our supervisors, not all, don't have any "real" police experience and make sure that those that do never will wear any bars. I know it is hard to believe. I have found it hard to believe myself. You would think competence would be rewarded. It does sometime here, but not often.

Now the next response will be something like I work at Wackenhut or flip a burger, but I really want you to know what you are getting into. If your main goal is to keep your certification current and work here until something else becomes available, you are thinking correctly. Good luck on your application.

If you are thinking of making this a career, move to Tallahassee, get a job at Tallahassee PD, and get some rank. Then you can come over as a Chief or higher. We don't promote internally for positions like that. I know that sounds strange too, but unlike 99% of most agencies who promote from within, we don’t.[/quote:3mlsktyk]

I try not to interject when someone from DEP comes on here to vent or present "facts" to a potential applicant except when the "facts" are very one sided.
First, it is true that there have been no raises here for many years. It is also true that none of the state law enforcement agencies have received raises. What this means is regardless if you get hired by our agency, FWC, AGLAW, MCCO, etc, there will be no raises.
Second, every agency has issues regarding who gets promoted or why. If you don't believe it, read any agencies post on .
Third, while the vast majority of officers and agents understand that a commission was formed to look at consolidation of different agencies, you always have one or two on every agency who thinks their supervisor or director has the authority to protect their agency against changes and is failing in there duty if they don't personally contact each member and inform them of changes.
Fourth, while it is true that on most police and sheriffs agencies you will get paid more, it does not mean there are no issues with promotion, job assignments, etc. Sheriffs can and do frequently appoint people in higher ranks from outside the agency, particularly after an election and a new sheriff. In many small and large agencies, you either have few opportunities or rules making seniority a significant factor in selection meaning you may be there for a few years or longer with no chance or getting out of patrol. Even then, you may never have the opportunity to do what we do. Generally, only the sheriffs office have agriculture or environmental teams and they are usually very small with little turnover.

I hate to tell you previous poster, but the pay raise issue is not entirely true. Two agencies have now had raises, they are FHP and FWC. While you can say they were given internally, they were still given. Our agency could have done the same, but chose instead to raise the pay of the secretaries in Tallahassee as well as the upper chain of command instead of spreading pay amongst the bottom end of the spectrum.

Promotion here is really hard to do. We have the same crony problems other agencies do, but the problem is we have fewer promotion opportunities. You may only have a shot at local promotion once or twice throughout your career here. Otherwise, you may have to move in order to promote, which PD's and SO's do not have this problem.

If I was looking to get hired, I would go apply to FWC, FHP, or an SO or PD. You will be taken care of better at these agencies, better chances for promotion because of simple statistical opportunity and numbers. Pay is bad at all state agencies, but this agency does not care about the workers. If you want to get somewhere here, work in Tallahassee as another poster stated. You will have greater success there and get promoted much faster. Better yet, go answer phones and scan in receipts in Tallahassee and you will make 10 - 20K a year more then most officers. Don't believe me, look up the secretaries salaries. They do have fancy titles though, but only work 4 days a week.

This could be a great job for you if you take it for what it is. Depending on who your supervisor is, you will be looked down upon for working hard and doing your job. Don't expect promotion here.

Also about the comment about the directors saving their agencies. Our's did NOTHING. He put his tail between his legs and ran like a scared puppy. We are better off now. Thank god we had a Captain in the SW that is a leader and cares about saving our Arses!!!!! If not, we would have been gone had it been up to the job shopping Tallahassee leadership.

I find it pretty hard to believe a secretary earns $20K more than a LEO. That would mean the secretary would earn about $50K/year. Are you sure? It doesn't meet the common sense test. I checked and secretaries at our agency earn about $25K a year and work 5 days a week.

I know its hard to believe, but it is true. They have fancy new titles so they are not called "secretaries". They do make around 10 - 20k a year more then the certified leo's. Don't believe me, look it up on the Gov's website. The secretaries everywhere else make around 25k, but Tally is special. Then they wonder why everyone is always P'ed off in this place.

I would say you are one of the few that are peed off. Since you are so unhappy, find another agency if they will take you. I have a feeling though that nobody would hire you.

AHHHHHH, the old if its a true statement issue, then resort to telling the person to find another job and tell them they are disgruntled. Maybe I am not peed at all, I love my job. I was merely stating fact. If you have proof of the contrary, please present. You know what proof is right. I bet if you look up the names and pay you will find these to be TRUE statements.

Sorry if you don't like it, but keep drinking the koolaid and all will be ok for you. Tally will still be there for you to have long lunches and walks on the beach so you can get promoted. Don't worry, crony will still be the best way to get the promotions here. You are not going to be expected to work to earn anything, so you can sleep tonight.

And the job thing, I already have taken a new job. So you are incorrect there too.

I think one title is: Operations Review Specialist

    Another is: Crime Intelligence Analyst

Certainly jobs with names like this deserve 15-20K more than a LEO that doesn't have the training and education that these experts must have. I mean how much education do you have to have to write a dog on the beach ticket or TOT a call to the SO. Quit sniveling, whiners! Just be glad you have a job.

If you want to complain about what people are paid, change your career. It is not their fault that they are paid more than you. Hater. And....do you really know what these people do? Have you walked in their shoes for a day to find out exactly what their jobs entail, and if they do more than just scan and answer phones? Do you know how long they have worked for the state, or what degree they have, or who their previous employers were that could have given them increases in pay? You call them secretaries, but don't you scan your receipts to Tallahassee, turn your pcard receipts in to someone, prepare your own vehicle logs, get quotes on lowest prices? Hmmm, sounds like secretarial work to me. So, when you point a finger, remember how many are pointing back at you. Hater.

    Incorrect,

I am not a hater, and again, a good attempt at diversion from the truth, when those darn facts come into play. Those positions are in fact glorified secretaries that are highly overpaid. Go work the private sector and see how much you make answering phones and getting "prices" as you say on objects for the boss. I bet $8 an hour would be a good salary.

And the reasons they are paid as they are has nothing to do with education, qualifications, or KSA's as they would say. It has to do with long lunches with the boss, brown nosing, butt kissing, and being friends with the Tally Crowd. Please, spare us the BS you don't know how hard my job is crap. You are overpaid and you lucked into a good arse kissing opportunity to increase your salary exponentially with a created position for you, the friend of someone higher up.

Why would secretaries be on 10 hour days. Are they taking vehicles home, saving the state money by being at work less. When was the last time you were available on a holiday, weekend, after hours, etc. I know, never!!!!!! Go bring your koolaid arse kissing BS to someone who will believe you. He left to DC by the way.

    Don't hate the truth, Hater!!!!
