    Don't want Gov at funeral

Email Rick Scott and please tell we don't want him to attend the Funeral for the fallen St. Pete officer. Tell him to save his fake BS for his buddies in the private sector.

It is a Deep Showing of Respect and Honor for the Governor to attend the Funeral of our Fallen Hero.

The Family and Friends expect it.

Keep the political garbage for some other time and place. It has no place here.

Its going to be real respectful when your paying into to your pension and having a 401K.

Its not a show of repect when a person who didn't care about you when you were alive shows up at your funeral.

This is about a Hero who gave his life serving his community not politics.

Honestly.....it should be the family's decision if they want the governor to attend.

Another perfect example of why we leave some controversial posts on LEOAFFAIRS. This string was started by a user who does not agree with what new Governor Scott stands for and, as a result, is encouraging everyone to apply public pressure to keep him from attending this funeral. In response a number of users who also might feel the same way about the governor take an opposing stance and see an advantage to the governor attending the funeral. We all should keep an open mind when reading these strings and be open to entertaining others' ideas. How else will we effect change? In this particular case I think the point the masses are trying to make is...Do you think Governor Rick Scott will become an advocate of law enforcement and change his agenda if he does not attend the funeral? What better chance do we have for him to understand us, relate to us and sympathize with us? Perhaps it's really an opportunity!

Yes it should. It would also be disrespectful for the governor not to attend the funeral unless the family does not want him there (which I doubt). The funeral of an officer should be the time to show respect, not make political statements.

That said, the PBA and FOP do walk a fine line in these situations when it does come time to make political statements. Nobody wants to exploit the death of an officer for political gain, but on the other hand they do illustrate the dangers of the job and what we have to face on a daily basis. In less than two months time Florida has lost as many officers in line of duty deaths as we did in all of 2010. We're also facing an all out attack against our compensation and benefits. The increasing violence against law enforcement is real and is something that the citizens and lawmakers need to be reminded of, especially when they're looking at cutting our compensation.
