ORMOND BEACH -- Two police motorcycle officers were injured this morning after being involved in a crash while working the Bruce Rossmeyer funeral.

Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman, Sgt. Kim Montes said her agency is investigating the accident, which occurred shortly after 9 a.m. at North Halifax Drive and Granada Boulevard.

She said preliminary information indicates six motorcycle officers were working the motorcycle dealer's funeral when the lead rider slowed. The motorcyclists behind him were able to slow as well. However a group in the back of the pack were not able to react in time and caused a chain reaction crash. Rossmeyer, one of the country's largest Harley-Davidson dealers, died in a motorcycle accident last week in Wyoming.

Ormond Beach police spokesman Sgt. Kenny Hayes said officers in the procession were from the Daytona Beach police and fire departments, and Ormond Beach and Port Orange police departments.

It is unclear who the injured officers work for, although Hayes said he was told they were from the Daytona Beach Police Department. The officers were not seriously hurt and the damage to their bikes was minor, he said.
