I would get into discussions with my co workers about pay, benefits, and whatever was happening that month that was controversial. I eventually left FWC for a higher paying job. Some people I worked with had degrees and some did not. Most of the guys I worked with were competent in most things and usually very competent in one or two areas regardless of education. So in my opinion the degree argument does not hold up. I was not the only person from my academy class that left for other jobs. Many of them left after the first year. I stayed for several years to see what the agency had to offer. The only issue I see is a lack of positive career growth for those that want to promote and those that want to be line officers. Sadly it comes down to money in most cases. I know FWC is trying to (or was) create solutions like the LT assessment, 208 money, and off duty. However, I found the 208 money at least in my area to be tightly controlled by one LT. He controlled how it was measured out. If he did not like you then obviously you did not get much in the way of 208. Oh well guys I come on here from time to time to see what's happening. Some of the posts are ridiculous but some are serious. Good luck to all of you.

When you start to hire people with degrees and they make rank, they want to hire people that they can consider their intellectual equals. (Nothing to do with job knowledge or performance)
This has been a trend in the last 20 or so years and continues to gain momentum especially if you are trying to promote. It matters not that you may have been deemed medically brain dead and that your career has been on life support, if you have a degree you will be promoted over someone better qualified without one. There are countless examples of this practice just within the last 18 months. (It also helps to be a Mason)
The most interesting thing about this agency is that the good officers, the performers, have no interest in promoting and coming out of the field to be subjected to the departmental politics and intrigues; consequently, the people that promote are those that don’t want to be in the field and were never performers. You end up with officers looking up to performing officers over their immediate supervisor as they consider the officer instead of the supervisor as a better role model and more knowledgable.
The obvious end result is poor line supervisors, totally detached mid-level managers and the reinforcement of an organizational culture that is in dire need of replacement.
    That my friend is FWC!

Law enforcement is a trade. You learn it by doing it. Upper Admin. and Management is a profession and requires a college degree. Give me a veteran or a guy with life experience and I will make a COP out of him. Not a kid who lives at home with his Mom while getting his degree.

The Germans are Progressive Socialists and they have the strongest economy in Europe.
It is not Socialism that is killing us, it is Corporate greed and corrupt politicians.

The strongest economy in Europe is like being the tallest midget. Corporate greed is a problem no doubt but socialism especially in the form of Obamacare is gonna kill this country

I agree with Glen Bunk or whatever his name is about the corrupt politicians and corporate greed. In this country they are one in the same. However, what many of you fail to realize, too scared to talk about, or maybe you just don't know is the eventual establishment of a one world government. Call it what you want but it's true, and most people are clueless. Most of the elected leadership is signed on to this deal to implode the U.S. economy, kill the middle class, get rid of sovreignty, and attempt to disarm the American people. The good ol' boy network here is going to collapse. Stop listening to the left right paradigm argument. The politicians in DC want us fighting with each other when we should be coming together. Look closely at your county and city government. If they have things posted on their website about "sustainable development", biometrics, and sustainable living then look out. I really don't care if you guys get pissed at my post. However, this will resonate with some of you. The pissed off ones are going to be the sheep.
