Man killed while campaigning for Democrat

SARASOTA - A man was hit by a car and killed Monday night while he was campaigning for Adam Tebrugge, a candidate for Sarasota County public defender.

"Right now we're determining if the car had the right of way or the pedestrian had the right of way," said Sgt. Herbert Head of the Florida Highway Patrol. "... We're not sure if speed played a factor."

That's a tragic story. However, I've seen how drivers are at that intersetion. When my light turns green, I usually have to wait for about 2 or 3 other cars to finish running their red light before it's safe to begin accelerating. That particular intersection is about 50 feet deep into Manatee County, so we're not allowed to stop red light runners there.
