JSO Cruiser Hits, Kills Man Walking Dog

FHP: Man Steps In Path Of Police Car

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man walking a dog across Pearl Street late Tuesday night was hit and killed by a police car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Lt. Bill Leeper with FHP said four JSO cruisers were heading north on Pearl Street in Brentwood about 10:30 p.m. He said the units had lights and sirens on, responding to an emergency call.

The FHP report said as one of the patrol cars approached the intersection at West 24th Street, a 61-year-old man walking a dog walked in front of the car. Ronnie James Wilson Sr. was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the police cruiser was Officer Nicole McBroom, 32.

Police have not released any other details on the incident. It's not clear what happened to the dog.
