Man arrested for punching SSO horse

SIESTA KEY -- Sheriff's reports said a man who was drunk and had been kicked out of Siesta Key Oyster Bar on the Fourth of July smacked a police horse and challenged a deputy to a fight.

The deputy squirted Jacob Nicholas Johnson with pepper spray and arrested him.

Officials say Johnson, 32, was kicked out of the restaurant-bar and urinated on the sidewalk outside. When a mounted deputy asked Johnson to leave, he refused, the report said. The deputy nudged his horse into Johnson, who then shoved and slapped the horse, according to arrest reports.

Johnson then balled his fists and reportedly told the deputy: "I'll show you what fighting is." The deputy pepper-sprayed Johnson and took him to the ground.

Johnson was charged with three misdemeanors, including the rare charge of injuring a police horse.

He posted bail and was released from jail.
