Dear BSO Retirees: What Would You Have Done....

Dear Long Time, Short-Time, Soon-To-Be, and other Retirees,

I will be retiring in a few months and was just curious what advice you might have in preparing for retirement.

    What would you have different
    What did you do wrong?
    What did you do right?

You are where I want to be! Any info would be appreciated.

    4 months to go!

Make sure admin doesn't try and steal your sick leave time with some BS fake IA investigation they hit you with on your last week. Put in for time off an hit them with the FRS paperwork during that time frame

Stay on top of HR and Payroll at BSO.Make sure they submit the required information in time to FRS.The people at FRS are excellent,no issues at all.Hang in their, try to control the stress and be safe. When you make it to the end,the retirement thing is excellent.

    My own info

Retiring was not easy, it has been 2 years. The first year was busy with family, traveling, and building a new home out of state. I wish someone would have talked to me about what to expect. After 33 years being a cop.. it is hard to say good bye to the job..and yes I have other interests which include diving, motorcycle riding, traveling and a great family.. but no matter what anyone says.. it was a great ride and I miss it. I also live in another state and miss my "true friends".. so take some advice .. take your time, analyze every option, and be sure you get all the money that is owed to you. I was in a staff position and was screwed out of about $ 1000.00 which I had to get a PBA atty. to get me back. Be sure you weigh the pros and cons before you make rash deciosn which will effect you long term.. since I have left.. gas has doubled, food up 20-25% etc..when you leave you will be forgotten in short time.. I wish I would have stayed longer and changed "my attitude" with the job.. by the way.. great question..and good luck..

Don't worry, if you have planned well [ $$$ ] there is no way you can compare "Retirement to Working" - When I read post on here from guys who are retired and "miss the job" I can't believe it. You will love it - I do!

I am planning to become a male stripper at Centuray Village. I figure the old fogies can spend their money on me instead of bingo.

Health Insurance weigh all options and decide which one is best, family insurance is 950 a month and going up to 1140 on Sept 1it goes up every year

I'm in the drop and getting close (2 years). Is there a decent way to use sick time so I won't lose it. No I don't want to hear bang in every Monday and Friday. Any suggestions from you retirees? I really hate to just lose 800 Hrs.
