Crime survey
A CONA Crime Survey was emailed out to neighborhoods in advance of this Wednesday's meeting and has also been posted on the CONA website (go to www.conastpete.org). Copies of it will also be available at the meeting. Completed surveys are already being returned and the results so far are very interesting. Lets just say the PBA and FOP ought to be checkin' it out...

Survey Questions
Survey questions from the CONA survey listed below. Can't wait to see the tallied results.
1. What is your opinion of the crime statistics just released by the Police Department?
2. Do you feel that crime is up or down in your neighborhood? In St. Petersburg as a whole?
3. Do you feel more safe, less safe or about the same in your neighborhood right now?
4. What is your opinion of the current staffing levels of police officers?
5. Do you hear any complaints about police response or follow up?
6. Is there an active Crime Watch group in your neighborhood?
7. If so, who is the contact person? Phone number? E-mail address?
8. Do you have any suggestions for improvements?

CONA?
CONA is a ridiculous excuse for what should be a citywide advocacy organization. The Chamber and Downtown love the idea of 108 neighborhood associations because they 'balkanize' the city into untold fractious voices. CONA should be the organizing force, but has so stuttered under the 'leadership' of Karl Nurse and chief Leiutenant Darden Rice as to be unable to mount a dog successfully.
So now CONA, under the leadership of Snell Isler Barbie Heck is going to talk Crime again. Heck loves the folks in City Hall and won't upset cordial relations. Did CONA accomplish recycling? Affordable Housing? Anything?
I'll believe it when I see it.

It always seems that the CONA President finds a way to push the issues that are most abbrasive to the city to the back of the agenda and with only 10 minutes to discuss what needs to be discussed for about an hour at the beginning of the meetings. The perception weather you like it or not is that the lack of leadership in the uppper managment in our police department seems to be the real issues at hand. Is the CONA President really that deep into the city and the police departments upper management with all the public hugs and kisses that she feels she needs to receive in order for her to do her job? Go to the CONA website and take a look at the past newsletters projected agendas and then read the notes posted after the meetings and you will see that the real issues either don't make it to the meetings by being scrubbed or they are pushed to the back end when everybody is gong or gone. Since when have we had or needed a CONA President or a CONA representative to be hugged and kissed that much in order for us to be affective... What a lousy and weak image CONA is receiving by doing this... Shame on you madam president.
