1. The uncertainty of the PBSO merger is resolved. It's a damn shame the merger failed and we can spend the next six months blaming and whining about it, OR we can turn our attention to fixing our own dept.
2. The current D/C is retiring. We can trash his leadership, resent his retirement package, even wish him ill health as some have done on here, OR we can see this as an opportunity for real administrative leadership. and NO this is not Kenny's Mom writing! Whoever gets the job has to balance administrative priorities (cutting costs) and what we need to do the job we signed on for (getting the bad guys and getting back home at the end of the shift in one peice.)
3. We have a new union. Like it or not. We can trash the formers reps, trash the new reps, and trash the process for how it all came to be, OR we can understand that this union, or any union, is only going to be as good as our UNITY. If you don't believe aything else, believe that the administration is united and committed to cutting costs and that means reducing personnel, challenging pension and other benefits, and spending as little as possible to keep the APPEARNCE that crime is their first priority. Which brings me to last and maybe most positive indicator.
4. The public is fed up and getting vocal about their anger and fear. But few understand what it is we do and what we can't do and why. That's starting to change. Commissioners HATE phone calls from unhappy and frightened voters. Every encounter with the public is an opportunity to build public support.
Alright, the city is playing games with us by not signing off on the PBA. Yeah, they're doing their best to divide and conquer. So what? We have a contract and most of all we have a brotherhood. Pitting union against union goes absolutely nowhere if the membership is truly a united force. Let the PBA know that we will not sacrifice our grievance rights just to make a clean slate for future negotiations. Let each one be settled or not on it's own merit. And let's do a better job teaching rookies about brotherhood.

That's the shame of this type of site. Almost every negative or ridiculous post on the Lake Worth thread is coming from one guy and we all know who it is. The same guy who is constantly spreading rumors in the hall way. The same guy who caused us to have to switch unions because he turned it into a monarchy. Now he'll get on here and say I'm wrong and he'll do it several times under different screen names but his prose is always the same. It's also funny how the negative postings drop off when he is on vacation. I hope the people that read this site realize that everyone has a couple of these types and neither they nor the content on this site represent the department accurately. These "me" types don't realize the damage they do to the group when they act like children. In times where the public is complaining about funding our well deserved pensions and benefits a few idiots are on a blog acting like school kids. I guess anonymous "slams" make this person feel better about himself.
