I've written family members of LEOs myself. I remember when I gave a break to a LEO family member years ago, only to hear crap about it for just doing the traffic stop itself.

It is much better to write the ticket than to give a break because of politics. I tell my own family members to not bother me and take the ticket. I think they'll learn to be a safer driver by doing so.

Stop telling your family members that they have some special power to speed, run stop signs and red lights. Don't tell them not to worry because they won't get a ticket. Honestly, how good would you feel when they have that knowledge (believing they won't get a ticket) and then get themselves killed in a traffic accident because of your stupidity in letting them feel they can get off?

I say write family members if you have to; you are probably saving their lives by doing so and taking away this invincible shield they think they have.
