    ANOTHER DEPUTY ARRESTED

NO WONDER YOU GUYS ARE SHORT ON DEPUTIES ON THE ROAD AND IN THE JAIL. ONCE A MONTH YOU GET A DEPUTY ARRESTED.

I wish that math was true. If so, we'd be running *really* short on bad guys too.

I've worked with the Deputy you're referencing several times. I don't know what he's like as a zone partner, but he was always courteous and very helpful with me.

I also know that I've had my own share of personal problems in my life and career. Sometimes they affected my performance on the job, sometimes I actually performed better, sometimes you couldn't tell. I think Deputy B. was (is) capable of being a good Deputy despite his shortcomings but sometimes our mistakes catch up to us.

Deputies are held to a higher standard (as they should be), but one of the most startling revelations for me when I first started working with law enforcement was that they're all human. I wish being a LEO made you a white knight (don't go there...you know what I mean) with super human strength and morals above reproach.....but it doesn't.

Look around at your own workplace. You've probably got an office gossip, someone who steals office supplies, someone who picks their nose, someone who surfs porn, and someone who has an addiction. You have the workaholic that outperforms everyone and the person that skates every day. Guess what? So does the HCSO.

The truth is, even if you could identify and corral all of the people in Hillsborough County with perfect morals, above average intelligence, 5% body fat, and a nose like a drug dog, how many of them would work for $37k on rotating shifts? Would you?

I think the HCSO does the best it can at weeding out undesirables, establishing and enforcing policies to maintain a high level of integrity, and quickly and publicly dealing with indiscretion. As a manager in another line of work (as I am), I would be able to offer Deputy B. professional assistance, personal counseling, and help him recover and put this behind him if he so chose. Unfortunately for him, he choose a line of work where that probably won't happen for obvious reasons.

That's yet another price these men and women pay.

Free advice: Something that has helped me substantially in life is trying to separate the "person" from the "behavior." I treat every "criminal" I deal with as respectfully as they will allow me because I know that they were someone's child, probably are someone's parent, and even a lifetime of bad choices doesn't make them a worthless person. I completely agree with judging someone's actions, but let's raise the character bar and leave the person out of it. I know for a fact that Deputy B. has a wife and children, I think it would be admirable if everyone could restrict the chatter to comments about the offense, not the quality of the person.

Thank you Fltoddy for your comments.
Let's face it we have had other deputies accused and charged with things and they have been dropped. Let's not convict him yet.

Presumably you would be happier if violations by deputies were covered up?

Get real. The fact is that there is no occupation which is free from law breakers.

The fact that the law is enforced even when it involves our own speaks well of our agency.

A$$Clown, even if a deputy did get arrested once a month, which is far from the truth, considering there are more then 2,000 Deps. That still means that more then 99.6% of the deputies are not getting arrested.

I worked with Deputy B. for 3 years while on the DUI squad. I always found him to be an stand up guy, always willing to step up to the plate and help out when needed. If the allegations against him are true, I can't quite figure out why he's sitting in jail with no bond. How is he a flight risk ? Take a look at the bookings for ORJ on any given day and you'll see people who have been arrested for crack cocaine possession that have a bond, yet a 9 year veteran officer sits in jail with no bond. Unreal ! Also, this is essentially a victimless crime. If Deputy B. committed this crime it's because he became addicted to a prescription medicine. I'd like to see him get the help he needs so that he and his family can move on with their lives.

Maybe the judge that signed the arrest warrant should be asked the question as to why he decided to give this first time offender NO BOND
