FHP Tampa Trooper Arrested

TAMPA - A Florida Highway Patrol trooper based in Tampa has been arrested for grand theft of more than $100,000 in a mortgage fraud case, state officials said.

Shaun Reid turned himself into the Orient Road Jail Wednesday on charges of Grand Theft and two counts of Mortgage Fraud. He was released after posting a $25,000 bond.

"Shaun L. Reid joined the patrol on Sept. 20, 2004 and worked in Tampa, Troop C. He was separated from employment on Sept. 2, 2011," wrote FHP Captain Mark Welch in an email. "He was dismissed due to the charges he was arrested on," the email read.

Welch declined to answer any other questions.

The Florida Office of Financial Regulation, which brought the charges against Reid, also declined to provide details. Spokeswoman Flora Beal said, "It's an ongoing investigation."
