It depends on who was telling the stories at the water cooler, some tend to embellish stories a tiny little bit and need to have independent witnesses verify and sign an oath form before it is to be taken as Gospel.
The party after the banquet should be thought of as the Las Vegas Slogan, What happens there should stay there and any issues should be dealt with in house without blabbing to the world.
