According to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office report Mateo Rodriguez had too much to drink and was asked to leave by an employee of the Santa Fe Bar at 830 US 301 Blvd. East. He refused to comply with the request and allegedly charged an off-duty MCSO deputy working at the establishment.

The incident occurred just before 11 pm. The deputy again asked Rodriguez to leave and again he refused. When the suspect charged the deputy again he deployed his taser and struck Rodriguez in the chest.

I thought charlie said no off duty officers working in an establishment that served alcohol?

Department policy forbids sheriff's deputies from working off-duty at bars. Elsenheimer and Harrison did not tell supervisors about their money-making side venture. "They absolutely knew we would refuse," Wells said.

double standard huh?

Policy state we can work security outside the bar i.e. the parking lot, but not inside the building.
