FROM THE P.B.A. WEBSITE:

Here are some facts that you will be able to see for yourself in the next couple of days. They should dispel any rumors that always circulate during contract time.

All Senior/Master ranks, (Senior Sgts, Cpls, Dets, MPOs) do have to maintain a satisfactory evaluation. This DOES NOT MEAN that if you get one or two below expectations on an evaluation you are not satisfactory.

All evaluations are being averaged as they always have been. For example, if you got a "BE" in one category and a "AE" on another category, that would average out to be meets expectations, which is satisfactory.

IT IS INCORRECT that having two below expectations will take away your senior pay.

HERE IS A FACT:

TWO CONTRACTS AGO THERE WAS ONLY ONE PROMOTIONAL LIST AND IT WAS WRITTEN IN BLACK AND WHITE. HOWEVER, THE P.B.A. ALLOWED THE OLD CHIEF TO SPLIT THE PROMOTIONAL LIST, THEREBY, VIOLATING THE TERMS OF THE AGREEMENT. WHAT DID THE P.B.A. DO, NOTHING!

SO, JUST BECAUSE IT SAYS:

To maintain the Master
Police Officer step (MP)_ and designation, employees must maintain an annual performance
evaluation average rating of Meets Expectations or higher.

OR

To maintain the Senior Level step (SR) and
designation, employees must maintain an average annual performance evaluation rating of
Meets Expectations or higher.

DOESN'T MEAN %@*, THE CITY CAN PUT WHAT EVER SPIN THEY WANT TO PUT ON IT.

BOTTOM LINE:

ITS A BENEFIT THAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE AND WE SHOULDN'T GIVE IT AWAY. THE CITY GAVE UP THEIR RIGHT TO THE BENEFIT EIGHT YEARS AGO WHEN THEY AGREED TO LET EVERYONE OVER 10 YEARS BECOME AN M.P.O. WHEN YOU NEGOTIATE, YOU EITHER GAIN SOMETHING BECAUSE ITS OWED TO YOU (THROUGH OUR HARD WORK AND A DANGEROUS JOB) OR YOU TRADE IT FOR SOMETHING OF EQUAL OR BETTER VALUE.

YOU DON'T GIVE IT AWAY!

VOTE NO!

P.S. WE DESERVE/HAVE EARNED A 6-6-6 JUST LIKE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT GOT!

Very good post Food For Thought

You are astute in your negotiation insight. And you are correct, the "screwing" by management will come once we start to "buck up" against the current ideology of Stats Above Morality as a platform.

We negotiate an Emergency Cash Death Benefit PAckage to help defray immediate difficulties that will cost the City nothing. Pat Lynch and John Romanak have discussed this in the past, so it is not my idea.

Basically, every member selects a Beneficiary.
Should that member die, on duty, extra duty, off duty, non-line of duty, in the line of duty - it dont matter, we dont care - but if it happens - IN ADDITION TO THE OTHER BENEFITS (Pension, State, Federal, Private, Etc - then.....
Every member would have 4 hours deducted from their Sick Bank.
The City would pay out at half the hours - so they wouldnt lose anything.
Exampe:
1000 person Department - times 4 hours/member
divided by 2 = roughly 2000 hours
2000 hours times - roughly 25.00/hour would be roughly...

$50,000 cash to a Beneficiary

This is to be paid within 7 days
If you dont think that 50K could be used immediately, you havent been around the families I have been around when tragedy strikes.
The other Benefits already established (Pension, Fed, State, City, Private, Union, etc) take time and many families struggle with House , car payments, Child issues, etc.

What do you think?
Its a Win Win for everyone

That's a good benefit, but I also think every officer that has dependents should be responsible enough to have enough life insurance in place (10-12 times your salary) to take care of their family if they don't come home at the end of the shift. It's heartbreaking when brothers\sisters get killed in the line of duty, and then wondering if their families are going to make it financially on top of everything they have just lost. Please guys, protect your families.

We dealt with the 35 percent, then the splitting of the list. Now if you get promoted you cannot take the next test until you have a year in grade. People, that means that you would have to wait close to three years just to take another test. When is enough, enough? If we going to approve of this, after also fighting for the right to take the test. Then we are moving backward not foward in the future of the police dept.

So TRUE, it's just a shame how many don't understand the concept of not GIVING BACK a benefit EARNED in a past contract.

Plus, no one can give you one valid reason to do it. They may try to blind you with BS but when it comes down to it for that to happen boils down to one of two things. Someone( read PBA) is getting something in return to sell us out, or someone is a fool.

Suicide?

Illness?

Just asking. I like the idea, but you need to be careful not to encourage suicide in a case of profound depression.

That's why many life insurance policies have an exclusion clause for suicide.
