i would stay working as a cpo if our departmetn had a pay step system like this that included o/t and etc.

Annual base salaries for officers hired during

January 2006 or after:

Police Academy (first six months): $25,100 (Annualized)
Upon completion of six months: $32,700
Upon completion of 1 ½ years: $34,000
Upon completion of 2 ½ years: $38,000
Upon completion of 3 ½ years: $41,500
Upon completion of 4 ½ years: $44,100
Upon completion of 5 ½ years: $59,588

* These salaries do not include overtime earnings, night-shift differential, holiday pay and uniform allowance. There is also longevity pay every five years up to twenty years of service.

i now understand why so many leave for a leo job.

One thing for sure many are leaving for greener pastures. just look at our turnover. DOC should see their is a major problem when almost all new hires are gone prior to the 2 year mark.

If you don't leave early in the game you get sucked in and can't leave later.

07-04-2006, 03:50 PM
not to mention if you have a brian in your head why would you stay and make the money we make and get treated the way we are treated for such low pay and nothing else special.

07-04-2006, 03:56 PM
even small florida police agencies pay so much more then us, and you can make extra money on top of the salary.

I think all this inexperience due to people leaving so soon after being hired will eventually make DOC wake up and work on the pay issue some. Some of the old timers say in the early 90's it lagged way behind ( even the starting pay ) and then DOC finally really increased the pay until we were making a little better starting pay at least than most local agencies, and now the same thing has happened again since about 2001 and we are lagging way behind again. I guess we never had a true step plan.

 The Department never really wakes up! When it's election year, someone gets an idea  that :D money talks and the COs/CPOs vote for the guy that gave them the buck$!

PBA prances around claiming they did this all for us! :o

We send a butch of VPs from PBA off for another term and never see them visit the offices outside their home counties.

Nothing changes........only the players!

if i could leave and do law enforcment work ie: police work i would. i am too old and not able to be a leo. i would never get through fto. i am stuck working here and thats depressing. :(

i owuld love the idea of doing real investigations and responding to 911 calls and chasing the criminals. i would love working in the streets doing real enforcement. i would love being in control of a police cruiser helping protect my community. i would love knowing that i could really provide for my family making a good wage. i would love to be able to get o/t and make extra detail pay. i would love that every year i make more money since there is a step plan/longivity pay. i would just love to have a real leo job not this sissy job.

09-04-2006, 01:22 PM
what ever that is i agree this is not the place for you if you want to make money and venture into the real leo world.

i get so upset when i have to drive my car to do field work. i am so sick and tired of not getting o/t and a step pay plan. i hated that i had to buy a $700.00 gun and another 200.00 on gear and the dept did nothing to pay me back. i will be sick and tired again when i have to update my gear and gun and servicing. i hate that i had to buy 4 polo shirts that say fl doc probation officer. i thought when your a real leo your issued tis stuff. we are so bad that not only do we buy our own stuff we drive our own cars and if thats not bad make pennies.

Dude...your soooooo **<K!NG BORING!!!!!!

09-14-2006, 11:53 AM
Oh...he knows. That's why this board is his only friend and his only viable form of entertainment (he can't afford anything else!!) and he has no friends (all his cop friends make over $50K their first years and won't wait around on a loser like him). Let him ramble on...most of us are over his nonsense. Just stop replying. He won't go away, unfortunately, but maybe some day he'll get bored with himself...or just go become a cop.

I have great news for you. FHP is hiring, so get your application in on People First! They give you a gun and a take home car, and a lot more money.

First of all what kind of gun did you buy for $700.00??? As a CPO you are considered an LEO and therefore you can get a weapon for cost from a distributor. I bought my off duty glock for 389.00 brand new in the box. You should do your research on this site instead of b*#ching. As far as the other items, and using your own vehicle, it does suck. But let us not forget you claim all this stuff including mileage on your taxes. So even though you have to put all that $$$$ out up front, you get it back in the long run.

FHP a lot more money??? They make no more than P&P and dont get crap hardly for seniority either. It is the local agencies that get the nice raises not a FHP officer.

10-09-2006, 10:01 AM
You are stupid if you think FHP pays so much more. FHP is still a state agency and it pays crap no overtime just comp time take it from me i interned with them and those troopers all leave to go to local police departments because the pay is so low. They are like cpo's they use the state for training and experience and then they leave for another agency. The state does not care about you and me it is cheaper for them to hire newbies then pay half of the employee's 50K a year. They are not worried about public safety ex. is the handcuffing issue and the new policy that we don't warrantless arrest homeless sex offender's. The state does not care they want you to do your 4o hours for min pay and once in a while they will give you some comp time. If your not happy leave they will hire someone else that wants some training for 3 years. The days of people staying a cpo for 25 years are over. If you are unhappy get your 3 years of experience and leave thats what i am doing local departments will hire you and certify you if you have experience. Good luck to all who apply with different dept. I hope one day people will wake up the state does not pay but it is a good place to get you experience and get the hell out!!!!!!!
