For example, in 1960 123,000 people were arrested for illicit gambling, but in 1995 only 15,000 people were arrested for that same offense (McGraw, 1997, 50). That’s an 88% decrease in gambling arrests over a 35 year period.

Did you stop to think that it took 6 months because the resources were being used elsewhere? :D

It probably would have only taken 2 seconds to arrest them for the gambling part but if you are doing your job correctly (as I'm sure they did) you look deeper. You build a good case, get Probable Cause for more arrest, and maybe find out that it is a little more ORGANIZED than you first thought.

Cases are investigated, arrests made, and trials conducted in one hour on Television. We don't tell you how to do your job, what makes you think you have the knowledge base to do ours?Watch TV for enjoyment but don't believe everything you see.

Some of us in the graduate program have been looking at this law enforcement website very closely because it is unique to the 21st Century, due to the medium of technology that is used e.g. internet blogs. In the 19th and 20th Centuries, nothing like this existed, so this is definately a new phenomenon that is a result of the "information age." In the 19th Century, officers had no rights. In the early part of the 20th Century, officers developed rights, primarily through unionization and primarily in the northeastern part of the United States. The southern states have been slower to unionize and to get support for the rights of officers. Anyways, this blog-outlet is being watched with interest. This is unique to the "information age."

My First Post, but enjoy reading.
I would tell the new Officer who is going to start not to publish any information on a site like this; you will do nothing but bring attention to yourself and your Agency. Also, if you really think you are protected and no one will find out who you are if you put something of real interest on this site, you are mistaken. I understand the MOD for our site will not release his/her name but remember, everyone has a best friend and you have to believe he/she is tell their best friend about all the crap you are posting. Probably he/she would also give up an IP address to the right political connection. Just something to think about

If you worked anything else but patrol, you would realize that "investigations" can and do take time. If they were investigating one establishment, they might have been able to move forward a lot quicker. But due to the complexity of the situation, it took longer. Yes, we all knew it was illegal, and anyone of us could have busted the door down and stopped them, but to simultaneously hit all of the businesses in order to get a conviction takes time to prepare and make sure all your ducks are lined up in a row.

But, you probably already knew that....

Well hell, and I thought I was watching an episode of Perry Mason, you mean this damn thing isn't over in an hour?

Maybe I should "break it down" for you fools that don't have the concept of a true investigation.
1st, You receive the complaint
2nd, You validate that the complaint is valid ie:is something illegal really going on?
3rd, You organize your plan of action (I know some of you , this might take a minute, others it might not ever happen)
4th, You assemble what you'll need to see your plan of action through (in this case it might be other people, surveillance tactics, maybe some cash, a recording device possibly, etc...You get the drift, I hope)
5th, You use what you have assembled to gather EVIDENCE, now that's a true investigative idea!
6th, NOW THIS IS THE BIG ONE, pay attention! After you have completed the first 5 things, make your arrest, in this case, seizing 20 or so establishments, the people involved and everything you need for a successful prosecution.

Now if you can do all of this in a 1hr episode, i'll give you twenty bucks and a fat pat on the back, otherwise shutthefuggup and go about your business in your well kept little cocoon!
I'm sure I've missed some points, but this should give you an overall idea!
This one's for you bc, luv ya!

I almost forgot the whining and complaining from the community about "losing their penny slots". If you're really that interested in gambling, do it legally. There are buses running from the Bayshore area all the time, taking gamblers up to the Seminole Bingo and Hard Rock Cafe Casino. Get your butt on a bus and give your money to the Seminoles, instead of organized criminals. Remember folks, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem!
