Any hiring by your agency? Is it a good place to work?

Thanks!

MANY OFFICERS HAVE BEEN HERE THEIR ENTIRE CAREER AND LOVE IT. MANY COME AND ONLY STAY A FEW WEEKS. SO IS IT A GOOD PLACE TO WORK? DEPENDS ON THE INDIVIDUAL. UNIVERSITY POLICING ISN'T FOR EVERYONE. USFPD IS GOING TO BE GETTING A NEW CHIEF STARTING NEXT WEEK SO WHO KNOWS WHAT CHANGES ARE GOING TO TAKE PLACE.

Just curious, what is so diiferent about university policing?

06-12-2006, 03:24 AM
Well for one, you work for administrators. most of these liberal pinkos are the same people who advocated the overthrow of the US government in the 60's. They are still the same Jane Fonda loving, bong smoking hippy dorks they were in the 60's, they just have jobs now.

They have an inherent hate of the police and anything law enforcement so they hamstring the police at every turn.

So if real police work is for you then keep looking. If civilian interference in the process of you doing your job doesn't bother you then come on in misery loves company.

Many of these guys here have fled to Temple Terrace Police and the word back is they love it. They are paid very well and the Chief is progressive. I am gone too if they say yes.

I am sure you will go to Temple Terrace and be an asset to them like you are to us....yeah right. Now they can deal with your bull*&$%. Let me know if u want to meet and discuss your unhappiness at our agency. I would be more than willing to help you deal with your inner tensions.

He does have a point, most the staff and administrators are extreme leftist and dislike anything to do with moral integrity, they have a hatred for anything to do accountability and justice. Police to them only get in the way.

Also if your administrators had it there way, the only thing you would carry would be a flashlight, they hate guns.

Wait about a month or two.

I heard you just hired a new officer who recently retired from PCPD. I know him, you will find his experience and knowledge an asset.

09-24-2006, 02:12 AM
Do you give priority to a person who is/was an officer with an other Dept first

09-26-2006, 04:02 PM
you are going into a angry environment

09-28-2006, 03:17 AM

Where can I find hiring info. How do you apply? How many officers are you short? How large is the department. What is pay? Are you on FRS? Do you patrol USF only or get out on some of what TPD and HCSO does near campus?

10-17-2006, 10:53 PM
You can get an application from usf website, or come into the station. We currently have about 40 sworn , looking to hire another 22 over next 3 years. We do work out jurisdiction as well as with surrounding agencies when needed. We also have mutual aid to enforce traffic around campus. We are state pension and although we have had some rough years the new chief is great and is dedicated to making it a great place again. check us out

Do you have a reserve or part time program? If so, what are their duties and how hard is it to get on.

I am recently retired, and still ahve a lot to offer. I was referred to USF PD by a friend that told me that the agency was looking for experienced Officers that want to stick around for at least 5 years. But, I was also warned that there is a lot of tattle tales on the Department of other Officers, supposedly those that are trying to get ahead, or just plain tattle tales? Is this true? I wouldnt be looking for advancement in rank, just to put in about 5 or 6 years, but I dont want to work at a place of Drama. Thanks for any replys.

A lot of the officers here have never worked on larger PD's or SO's and they have not been accimilated into real police work and officer relations, which I can only guess is leading to the "tattle tailing". I could be motivated by want of premotion, or like I say lack of proper training and assimilation into the job. Don't get me wrong, flagrant moral and lack of judgement violations should always be reported. I havent worked at USF for a long time, but I have seen and heard of "tattle tailer" officers. From my short tenure here, I have noticed that rumors have a great deal on the way things are handled by the higher ups, and has a good deal on how things are acted on. I think it is probably the same anywhere though, just not as bad as here. All in all it is a good place to work, and dont let it affect your applying here. And from what I've seen, there is plenty of overtime to be worked.
