Hello Officers - The Citizen is here with a new post and something more for you to ponder and discuss.
What are the pros and cons of having more police officers on motorcycles in the city of Hialeah? Obviously, safety is an issue of great concern. But, let's look at five positive points and let us know what you think?
1- Motorcycles can be obtained in larger numbers at lower operational costs. Up to 30% of the police fleet can be motorcycles. The added investment would be protective gear, but adding up would still be less costly than the standard patrol car.
2- The capability of increasing the number of police officers as a trade off for cost savings, and increasing police presence on the streets, shopping centers and other areas.
3- Motorcycles can get to a scene quicker, as they can squeeze between cars on the road and ride through and over other tighter areas and roughed surfaces.
4- Both, the right number of police on motorcycles and in patrol cars provide an added sense of pride and prestige to the officers, the department and the city they serve, when done correctly and with proper training in place.
5- Some officers on motorcycles can also be cross-trained to serve both, police and rescue operations, carrying a medical kit case and getting to the scene of an accident, emergency or trauma event faster in certain situations.
Adding more police officers on motorcycles is a huge positive!
