Former Sheriff Scott Israel Accused of Using Taxpayer Money to Buy Support in Black Community
Bob Norman April 4, 2019

As former Broward Sheriff Scott Israel steeled himself for his court battle to try to return to one of the most powerful offices in South Florida, he went to a place he's always relied on for political support: a black church.

This time it was Ark Restoration Church in Sunrise, where Pastor Allen B. Jackson invited Israel and his wife Susan up on the pulpit during the Sunday sermon on March 17. Jackson posted a photograph on Facebook later that day, showing Broward's former first couple with him during the sermon, with the ousted sheriff looking rather grim in the background.

"We are praying for his return to office," Jackson wrote. "My friend, my brother and my Sheriff!"

Broward Circuit Judge David Haimes could decide as soon as today whether a lawsuit Israel filed against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to be reinstated as sheriff can go forward. Desantis removed Israel from office in January for incompetence and neglect of duty related to BSO's disastrous response to the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. If the lawsuit fails, Israel is still entitled to a hearing in the Florida Senate. Regardless of the outcome, Israel has said he plans to run again for sheriff in 2020.

And now Pastor Jackson seems to be one of the few community leaders left who are supporting Israel. But what he didn't bother to tell his congregation or his Facebook friends is that he has a very strong financial reason — $36,000 a year in taxpayers' money to be exact — to praise the former sheriff and hope for his "brother" to return to office.

That's the amount of money paid to him annually in a questionable BSO contract Israel inked with a company formed by Jackson in late 2016 for consulting work — a contract that wasn't renewed in January, the same month DeSantis replaced Israel with current Sheriff Gregory Tony.

Jackson formed a company called Triune Consulting in November 2016 and the contract was signed a month later. What exactly the pastor did for the money isn't clear and Jackson refused to address questions about it. The contract dictated that Jackson provide "advice and counsel to the sheriff... on matters related to community involvement, crime prevention, and crisis intervention."

Interestingly, Jackson had been a vocal critic of Israel and BSO's handling of matters in the black community, including the controversial shooting of black resident Jeremy McBean, prior to obtaining the contract. Jackson, who is black, had also complained, prior to obtaining the contract, that Israel was using BSO money to pay other black pastors in the county to buy political support.

Former BSO Col. Alvin Pollock, who was working in Israel's command staff at the time the contract was signed, called the financial arrangement between BSO and Jackson "disgusting," likening it to "hush money."

"It's wrong and it's unethical," said Pollock, who is also black. "...That contract should have never happened."

Pollock, who is running for sheriff in 2020, alleges that Israel engaged in a pattern of paying black pastors in return for goodwill in the community. Records show Israel had at least three other black pastors on the BSO payroll — including chaplain Nathaniel Knowles and associate chaplains John Mohorne and Israel Francois — with salaries totaling about $250,000. All were given BSO vehicles to drive as well.

"(Israel) had one strategy, and that was to keep them quiet so they didn't criticize him," said Pollock. "That's all he was interested in, was the vote. He wasn't interested in employees, wasn't interested in crime, just the vote."

Pollock noted that Israel already had a vast community affairs team at BSO — which was full of politically based hires and also dismantled by the new sheriff — making Jackson's deal even more curious. Jackson refused to answer questions about the nature of the now-defunct contract.

"I don't understand why you feel the need to do a story about a contract that no longer exists," Jackson wrote in a text. "Are you going to do a story on every company that has or has had a contract with BSO?... I do not wish to speak with you about this."

Israel, who is opposed by family members of all 17 people killed in the Parkland shooting, hasn't yet responded to a phone message this morning seeking comment.

Correction: This story has been corrected to reflect that the Broward Circuit Judge's name is David Haimes.

There is pandering and fraud all over this agency. Take a look at the Crime Lab and explain why a black civilian lab director has been taking hundreds hours of leave time without actually taking it as leave time. We've been paying her salary as she has been following her kid all over the country trying to pursue a Broadway career.

Forensic Ballerina my a$$. You're stealing from the taxpayers, Claudine.

Fired Sheriff Israel Friend & Pastor & BSO Community Liaison Allen B. Jackson (pictured above) BUSTED!

Pastor Busted, Drops Out of Race

BY BUDDY NEVINS

A pastor and former Broward Sheriff’s Office community liaison has dropped out his race for county commission after being charged with stealing from his church.

Allen B. Jackson withdrew from the race shortly after being charged with grand theft from the Living Word Community Church in Lauderhill, where he was the head pastor.

A long-time Democratic activist who has run twice before for the commission, Jackson was one of seven Democrats seeking to replace Josephus Eggelletion in central Broward. Eggelletion is in prison for bribery and money laundering.

In addition to being a pastor, Jackson was a community liaison for former Sheriff Ken Jenne at the sheriff’s department from 1999-2005.

Ironically, Jackson not only worked for the sheriff but has won a number of awards from crime fighting organizations. This info comes from his application to be appointed to the commission seat shortly after Eggelletion’s arrest last year.

Jackson stated on his application that he won the Distinguished Service Award from the Florida Council on Crime and Delinquency and an Outstanding Civilian Award from the Pompano Police Department.

He also told the governor’s office on the application that he is the former chair of the Broward County Crime Prevention Council.

Jackson’s references for the appointment were Pastor O’Neal Dozier of Pompano Beach, a controversial conservative; Levi Williams, a former School Board candidate and GOP activist and Circuit Judge Ilona Holmes.

Gov. Charlie Crist appointed Al Jones to fill the post instead of Jackson.

Jackson ran against Eggelletion unsuccessfully for the District 9 seat in 2004 and 2008.

The probable cause affidavit from Lauderhill Police states:

On February 22,2010 Alan Jackson was terminated from his position as head pastor of the Living Word Community Church located at 5770 W. Oakland Park Blvd, Lauderhill Fl. On February 25, 2010 Alan Jackson arrived at the TD Bank located at 7342 W. Oakland Park Blvd and withdrew $13,500 from the church’s account. Alan Jackson committed this act with the intention of temporarily or permanendy depriving the Living Word Community Church of these funds. Upon speaking with Derek Kerr (Church President) it was leaned that Alan Jackson did not have permission at anytime to withdraw any church funds on this date.

Police filed the case on May 11.

Jackson lives in Lauderhill.

Just watch. These pastors will join forces and spill the beans to save themselves. They will claim that they were manipulated and strong armed. Their congregations will support them and call you know who a Judas. Jackson was already forgiven for being a thief when he stole from his own church years back. He's not going down with the ship.

It was ALVINs idea in the first place! Great article by Bob Norman, and a perfect example of Alvin Pollacks self delusion that he is smarter than you. Norman did not know Alvin the player recruited the preacher patrol now he trashes isreal?
Alvin and Richie Williams approached the Amazing Leader with the concept of paying the preachers as employees. Ask the preachers who approached them first yourself.

We must free our brother, Scott Israel. We desperately need him back as sheriff or some position in the county that has access to the goodies. What the hell are we going to do? I don't know about you but I am NOT going back to taking public transportation and paying money out of my own pocket to fill up my wife and girlfriend's cars with that nasty Chevron gas. I want that free BSO gas my girls get when they wave that magic card and then the liquid gold flows free.

There were a few key moments that took him down in the eyes of the public; obviously the "amazing leadership" was one; but the photo above had, and will continue to have a very significant impact. It exudes absolute weakness. The expression on his face and those surrounding him reeks of a closely guarded conspiratorial history between cultural forces that feed off of one another; yet loathe one another under the surface. Whomever captured this sidebar moment exposed everything that one needs to know about who these people are; and what their intentions continue to be.

If you look at the picture, at least Susan looks like she's paying attention. Scotty's got that face (although I loved the Taco Bell comment) that says $hit we got caught, how do I lie my way out of this one. I guess he's of the theory if I keep saying I'll get reinstated or win the next election I'll even start to believe it. How do we go from law enforcement, keeping communities safe to giving preachers money and cars? Something is so messed up..

Tell it to Tony. He still has FOUR preachers on the payroll, only Jackson gone.

The media photos are not helping his case. Being led away by the arm with corrupt church leaders, looking at his spouse with an expression that says" We may lose the house afterall" and standing with a CV senior citizen who distracts from the issues showing a bra that is not doing it's job... These are the images that folks remember. The media has captured the loss of public confidence; and the public is done with entitled hack politicians claiming to be victims. The school superintendent that DeSantis suspended was shut down; and this will be no different. Israel had one way out and that was to attack Broward County Schools for deliberately hiding vital information from law enforcement. Most of the blame could have been contained to one district had someone done the homework. When all of the details come out; he will see that there was a missed opportunity.
