I agree 100% with you. But, we both know in today's world, had a deputy stopped him before the shitbag had time to approach the attorney, the "court of public opinion" would be screaming how his rights were violated, etc. Even when you are well within policy, you are found to be at fault, just so they can appease the public.

depending on where he was housed upon being arrested, if he was in some sort of a detox dorm, he likely would have received his meds prior to attending court. bond court is a wild card, and its not always pleasant

Hey, maybe this time the PD's office will get their wish and the SAO will drop all charges. After all, just like the PD always says when an LEO gets battered that's part of your job. Well guess what, the PD's office put her in that position, so I guess it's part of their job too!

Actually, I thought the entire incident was pretty funny. She did deserve to get hit. These human parasites are nothing but monsters. Sheriff Tony's statement was even funnier. He stated, “As the senior ranking law enforcement official for Broward County, I am obligated to ensure all policies related to the protection and safety of our court officials are enforced. Effective immediately all inmates will be handcuffed during these proceedings as to reduce the ability of an inmate to cause similar harm or greater. The safety of my fellow criminal justice practitioners is of the highest priority.“

Somebody must have wrote that statement for him. All of a sudden, he's the world's foremost authority on jail policy and procedures?? When he mentions "criminal justice practitioners", he must have been referring to the judges, attorneys and other court employees, correct? Him, like any Sheriff before him has no concern for the well being of jailers.

There's a few issues here.

First, the PD's office wants the least restrictive accommodations for the defendants. Too bad, their safety should always be secondary to the safety of civilians and sworn. Yes to cuffs.

The deputy at this post was not on point. You can almost always see escalation before an eruption of violence.

Mental health defendants should be flagged and separated from general population for the safety of all.

ALL defendants who have had a history of housing at NBB or other indications of mental health issues should be screened and properly medicated before transport or other movement.

Like it or not, mental illness is real. Schizophrenia is a brain disease that when treated properly and consistently with the right meds does not show any symptoms at all. EVERY deputy should be educated on the three sub-types of schizophrenia in detail to understand and know how to respond to these defendants. Failure to understand mental health is dangerous and results in many LE under reacting or over reacting to situations that get them jammed up. The very best of LE are knowledgeable about mental illness. Biploar disorder, type one, is at the root of an enormous amount of domestic calls. Of course cops don't want to be psychologists, but having a basic understanding of these disorders definitely gives you an edge.
