DeSantis lined his campaign coffers with money from Parkland in return for Israel’s ouster. That POS deserved it. Instead of finding a true law enforcement administrator with institutional knowledge he picked Mr. Pollack’s recommendation. Pollack and Gregory Tony worked out at the same gym and that’s how they met. I’m not talking shit about Gregory Tony but there were dozens of more qualified LE professionals better suited for this appointment including many African Americans (one of them retired from BSO two years ago). I’m a Republican but DeSantis has lost my vote next time around.

From Parkland:

Sir, if you are aware of a qualified candidate for 2020, by all means, encourage this individual to formally file for the 2020 election. We have been watching the filings, and so far, there have been two, Vasquez, a republican candidate, and Rosenthal, who does not appear to be a formidable candidate. Based on the recent school board loss, it would not appear that by 2020, a republican candidate could pull it off in Broward. Therefore, it makes sense to support the most centrist independent or democrat. To be fair, we have been seeking your input for months, and your candidate, whomever it may be did not file. Have him or her do so, and I promise you that all will be a consideration. Our position is not intended to be adversarial in any way. We recognize that good morale benefits the public as well. We will get behind the BEST candidate for 2020, and on this day, we do not know who that will be.

Vasquez switched to the Democratic party and Rosenthal is not a viable candidate. It was a very good post and your thoughtful response is hopefully an opinion shared by many but what the original post stated is correct, there were many more qualified candidates. The governor should not just pick someone based on the recommendation of someone he works out with.

You should live here for a while. Many new and improved Captains have come and gone from the district and it hasn't solved the big problems. Too soon to see if Mulligan will be different. Do you want to know why some residents don't have confidence that another insider would be the solution?

One example: the intermittent resident who got immunity after he helped dump Lynn Friend over the side of the boat years ago. He's a problem to say the least. His believable claim that he was close with you know who and his "I dare you to call 911" stance ? As a proven dangerous guy, who is undeterred by the threat of a 911 call, It's not worth the risk. Does this mean that today, with a new Sheriff, if there would be a need to make a 911 call, that we're safer from this cat; or is he still an untouchable? That's only ONE of the scary characters who lurks around here. People wont report crime when there's of a lack of confidence and low expectation of enforcement. They buy a better security system and grow the hedges higher.
We are very hopeful that the new Sheriff, from the outside, will look at things from a different perspective and not through the eyes of community policing. As we have all learned 49 visits to a house later, some individuals are just dangerous.

Please define your interpretation of "qualified".
I've been in this job for quite a long time and know how administrators get bounced around from unit to unit to supervise so they can pad their resume.
This way they can say "I was in charge of______, and____".
On paper, someone can look very qualified when in actuality, they don't know a damn thing.

No disrespect to you but you been on the job for quite a while and you need me to describe for you what a qualified LE administrator is. I’ve been around for a while too and I have a pretty clear idea. Be safe out there.

You mean like mandatory vests requirements when working traffic in 100° heat? Or shoulder mics on radios that don't work to begin with? Or body cam deployments for cats in trees? Or not being able to utilize our computer aided dispatch to aid dispatch via computer? Or the I tapped someone on the shoulder better do a use of force? Or the I thought about activating my blue lights, better do a persuit form? Or the infamous "may" go in policy? You mean stupider than those?

We already had one sheriff get in trouble for manipulating crime stats for POWERTRAC . And now another one for manipulating crime stats for PROMISE. I'm sure the new guy can't wait to implement another ludicrous system that will end up beinb his demise.

Al Pollock is a great person. Decorated Marine who spent close to 40 years serving the people of Broward County. He has the knowledge of the inner workings of the agency and has always tried to do the right thing. That scumbag Israel used him for the black vote and when he didn’t need him anymore he threw him aside. The Parkland people used him and Jeff Bell to get Israel thrown out, with help from their new bought friend Governor DeSantis. They used him just like Israel did so they are no better. Then Pollack’s gym friend gets appointed to the position. In my opinion Al Pollock should have had a fair chance at being appointed and being Broward’s first African American Sheriff. I think he deserved that chance.

There was definitely some confusion due to coincidence. "Alvin" was often confused with "Andrew" by residents who were unaware of a Pollack at BSO and were under the mistaken impression that BSO employees were behind Andrew for Sheriff which did not make sense to them. There was also an A. Pollack at the school police awhile back, which was coming up on searches. Interested parties need to file with Broward SOE to get their names out there. If BSO Andrew Pollack is interested in a run, and has the support, he will certainly be a consideration. With all that's going on, being an interim Sheriff does not necessarily put one in the cat bird seat for 2020. Everyone wants to get it right; whatever that is.

Just re-read my post and saw that I mistakenly wrote Andrew instead of Alvin myself at one point.

"Alvin", today, is a stranger.

Many are saying, 'well who cares about parkland" but that's where deep pockets will be for the run. Now, while we're on the topic, the other Pollack, Angie. Is she no longer a BSO employee? It's also important to make this distinction as well.
As far as Parkland is concerned, the field for 2020 is wide open.

Angie Pollock is Alvin Pollock’s wife. She left BSO and then worked for the Broward Schools Police. She left there because
she did not agree with Runcie’s policies which eventually led to a major failure. Many of the school board members know her very well along with her husband Alvin.

It would behoove this interested candidate to encourage his wife to help out the Parkland effort by rehashing the full story about "Jill." ESE is the next topic up for microscopic inspection so the timing is good. That situation is much more significant than most realize and would most definitely win over those behind this effort. There would be no better way to get acquainted with Alvin than for he and his spouse to blow the lid off of what took place prior to Angie's departure. But... if they are tied in or aligned with the school board in any way, there is NO CHANCE of making it out of the gate. Best be on the right horse.
