A question from one community deeply affected by community policing:

Obviously, based on the posts over the last 24 hours, those in defense of this administration are tuned in.

With regard to your proposal of the Threat Assessment team, exactly what are your plans to address the criminal element left behind, since 2013, still roaming the hallways of Broward County Public Schools? Specifically, those in which the SRO's, and at times, road deputies were under the "command" of school principals who managed reports and determined that even felonies would be dealt with 'in house."

There's a whole lot of planning about going forward, but the experience at MSD proves that PAST incidents are a threat as well. The "starting point" of your plans does absolutely nothing to promote safety. Students will not use the "say something" app. Kids don't do that.
There are juvenile criminals all over the schools, some still in attendance, others lingering in the community. Aside from the fact that students have been in daily harms way for years, it is applauding that the deputies in our community were also set up to be cut off at the knees; not only in performing their job of law enforcement, but also in danger of being shot themselves. Let's remember that Cruz could have chosen any target in the community, and could have unleashed his rage and ambushed law enforcement as they responded; or on any other day, at any other time.
Forming a new coalition, task force, committee, etc. is useless, if day one, is today. The absolute refusal to admit that the cooperation with BCPS in dismissing juvenile crime was a mistake, PROMISE as a misleading sham, that SRO's were intentionally kept out of school matters, and the continued alliance of the Sheriff with Runcie, a proven liar makes this proposal questionable.
Every day that past performance is without honest reflection and past leadership is touted as "amazing" is one day closer to the end of the administrations of BSO and BCPS. In short, we are not buying the cute little apps, the free giveaways or any of this nonsense. The victims of school crime are real. You have dismissed them; and continue to do so.

another good question would be how many deputies in tow of admin who were brought to the atlantis academy last week were aware that the school contains some kids who had to be removed from public school to accommodate the education of known perverts and other bad apples who threatened their safety. a free toy and a seat on a BSO motorcycle won't change the past.

While I acknowledge that no one should have to go through anything like this, I would like to know what the "one community deeply affected by community policing" does on it's own to keep something like this from happening again?
This is the same overly Democratic community that elected a recently converted Democrat candidate as Sheriff, that took the liberal playbook (becoming a very good politician in the process) and ran with it giving the community what it wanted (cute little apps, free giveaways).

Has this same community spoken with their own children about this issue? Why did this monster come back to a place he no longer had ties to? Maybe because this was where he was mistreated by his former classmates for so long? Many students admitted that they thought this monster was strange and treated him differently, some even admitted they bullied him. Have any parents sat their children down & explained / taught them how to treat others? You don't have to be friends but treat everyone with common decency. Many are to blame for this monster. The focus has been on what he did & the response to it (rightfully so), but if he never became a monster in the first place this may not have happened.

What are we doing? We're standing behind the good men and women of the BSO who demand leadership and accountability. You can view our progress on fb Concerned Citizens of Broward. No, we're not liberals. Many kids were kind to Cruz. He is a chronically mentally ill individual who was dealt a very bad hand in life; some in his genetic code and a lot in his environment. His multiple issues were exacerbated by two systems completely focused on winning elections at any price, including the manipulation of crime statistics. Lots of kids in the schools have gone out of their way to be kind to those with differences; including Gina and Jaime who volunteered their time to socialize with kids with autism. They're both dead. Do you have any other great ideas? Perhaps a few ride alongs, and ice cream with the Sheriff would have undone the psychopathology of Cruz? Think so?
