Check his background he is dirty. He’s been suspended, reprimanded, and the police have been at his home multiple times for alleged battery charges against family members.

He was also sued in the 90s for civil rights violations where he pulled women by their hair out of a protest (google it). The Tampa police dept was also sued for it too.

From what I understand every single police officer at PR, except a select a few hated his guts and wanted him out along with the city Council and city manager.

He is a great guy and an amazing Chief. The problem is most Port Richey Officers couldn't handle someone with so much experience. His leadership would make a great addition to any agency.

RL came on with the vision to fire good officers and to hire and make this a Tampa P.D retirement dept. He brought over one of his boy, W. Ferguson, who was an absolute moron. However, his plan failed and the police department was restored. The good ppl of PR didn’t want his or his crony Ferguson as Chief either when he wanted the job.

The city Council even had a special meeting to get RL the hell out but he got smart and retired before he and Ferguson were both fired.

He also tried to get chief jobs in ZPD and DCPD and failed to do so....

As I sit here in the middle. We the City of Port Richey, Employees and citizens have moved on. The truth has both opinions and truths in it. Depending on where you sit is how you see it. To be blunt the man's an asshole. No one will deny it, he will tell you it. To be honest he left his department. Weither you blame him or the pushback from the city in his term as chief, he walked out and blamed the city. He had a plan, and admitted he had failed. The patrol fleet was in shambles, officers with poor moral, internal system on its last leg, and other things left aside. Officers left and more intended to do so. The place seemed to be falling apart. Was he doing it? Was it to far gone to where he couldn't fix it because of bureaucracy? Only he knows. In the end officers were left with nothing. The current way things are going are the best the PD has ever had. Best of luck.

I'd like to see this used for legitimate reasons for once. Nothing like being a joke of you keep it up. Just give a legitimate answer. Stop the crooked cops shit and the John Doe "ABC" itital shit whoever the **** you are. As well as the personal attacks. You don't know who's postings. Now, the previous Chief walked out, and was a ****. He might be a great guy outside of work but damn it was hard to look past his ego. Was he allowed to have one as Chief, yeah. All I can say is steer clear of this idiot. He will try to find a way to ruin good cops reputations with hanging paper on them. Like somebody else said above, RL tried to get Chief positions at both Dade City PD and Zepherhills PD and failed. They saw his background and said no thanks.

Frankly I’m surprised that your city hired the clown with all the crap in his background. He failed miserably in PR and almost destroyed the police department. He was also hated as much as Tampa PD, just ask a majority of the command staff and cops who knew him there.

And to think RL promoted RK to Sgt. after he was demoted 4 times prior. Says a lot about RL character choice.....
