The residents are aware to an extent, but quite frankly, the ones that would be the most beneficial in local government probably realize that getting involved in this citiy's politics is either career suicide, or a ticket to white-collar prison. It's a young city, and fairly transient. It's mostly the long-time retiree residents that get involved in the meetings and elections. Although the NBVPD might have some internal issues, they seem to be well regarded, and the residents are counting on them to keep the city commission honest.
