The NHTSA has an alert for exhaust leaks in new Ford Explorers, and we need co2 gauges now. Just one more stressful thing to worry about. These trucks have been a failure, always recalls and breaking down. Can we please join Hollywood, Davie ,Pembroke Pines and FHP and go with the Chevrolet Tahoes next time.

This is not a dig at Fleet or Administration, it's just a plea from the deputies that drive these vehicles for a living.

Everybody knows and understands that the Chevy Tahoe is a much better vehicle. Unfortunately, the civilian population also knows this and buys the Tahoe, which drives the price up for Law Enforcement Agencies. By going to the cheaper, smaller, and less functional (the boxes are great but do not fit so they had to be raised which is not functional) Explorer they can purchase more. They also don't have to wait as long for the order to arrive from from Ford like they do with Chevrolet. But what they need to be looking at is how much time these NEW vehicles are spending in the shop.

Additionally, a few more agencies have made complaints too. BSO is putting co2 detectors in every car now as a safety for everyone. Anyone that knows anything about fleet vehicles knows that since Chevy dropped the substandard Caprice they poured all of their focus on an affordable Tahoe. They are in fact very affordable . Especially when you factor in all the lost patrol time for deputies spend off the road to bring on the Explorers for repair.

Another gripe with the Explorer - fuel efficiency! Holy cow, has the fuel bill gone up since we went to these things because they are horrible! 200 mile range on a full tank of gas is a joke.

So now that there is a little negative feedback all of a sudden everybody is Bit*hing? I'm not an 18000 CCN, nor do I drive a new Explorer, but the observations about the Explorer are valid like it or not. Yes, it is free, and everybody will continue to drive them as long as they are operable (keyword). Maybe, someone just needs to look a little closer at the vehicle....that's all.

Nope, not me junior. Don't have an explorer. My ride is parked at the curb and I walk most of the shift. You should come down here and try it. No fumes, walk around and maybe stay in better shape. 200 miles if your lucky....my gauge shows near 3/4 and it says 93 miles to empty

Hey entitled ungrateful one. You sure have a short memory. We went years without a raise or new cars, and your old, 150k mile unit gave you a yeast infection. You demanded a new one, citing officer safety. The sheriff spends millions on new vehicles and now, based on a video someone is passing around, you dont like them either. If there was a health or safety issue, some filthy Dershowitz would have had them pulled off the road already. Stop with the drama already or ask for your old unit back. Theres plenty of things to complain about. Your new unit isnt one of them.
