According to a Washington Post article, fewer Americans are dying from gun violence. The shift began two decades ago and it isn’t a modest change:
- In 1993, there were 7 firearm-homicides per 100,000 Americans.
- In 2013, there were 3.6 firearm-homicides per 100,000 Americans (the figure fell by nearly half).

The Post story says, “The decline in gun violence is part of an overall decline in violent crime, even as a certain type of mass shootings are apparently becoming more frequent. [Nonetheless] America has become a much less violent place.” Victims of non-fatal gun violence declined even more.
