TALLAHASSEE - Gov. Rick Scott and the union that represents state workers, have reached a federal settlement allowing drug testing of employees in sensitive areas, but not all employees.
Union president Jeanette Wynn said, "The settlement allows limited drug testing, while protecting the rights and dignity of workers who were unlawfully subject to 'suspicionless' searches."
A Miami federal judge with the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals concluded that only workers in sensitive jobs could be subjected to random drug tests.
Scott then decided against seeking U.S. Supreme Court review of a new law that requires all welfare applicants to submit to drug testing because it was ruled unconstitutional.
