What do you think of Ridgewood?

Hello, My mother (a police officer just 2 years away from retirement woot woot) advised me to come post here. My family and I are being relocated to Queens and I am completely overwhelmed as to where to even begin becasue we have never lived in NY. We found a wonderful house in Ridgewood on Stephens St. and I love the diversity (both my husband and I are Hispanic) but I am worried about the area since I know nothing about it. I'm sure like every place there is going to be good and bad, but as a mom of 2 kids above all is safety. Any info would be wonderful.
