How many hopefuls have applied so far? And how many positions are being filled?

I'm sure the number of applications is in the hundreds. Positions being filled should be 10, according to the news. We don't get info like that. News gets it before we will. Lol.

10-19-2013, 03:42 AM
I talked to HR today and they said there were "a ton" of applications. She said she's been inundated with applications since the position posted.

What is the fitness test comprised of? Is it the typical obstacle course, or is there a 1.5 mile run as well?

Any idea when they'll start calling ppl back? i applied way back in oct do they prefer millitary over non-millitary? thanks.

Ralph Suarez is working on a plan to move the hiring process along. Just blow into your decoder ring and he will make unicorns appear.

I'm in the same boat, and wondering as well. Military vet, out of state LEO experience, FL LEO for the past 5 yrs, plenty of advanced certs....still no call from MGPD. Did they already start the processing and hiring and I just got passed up? Can't call because they won't answer applicant "status" questions.

I applied October 18, got a letter in the mail in November and had an oral board last week. They said they will contact me if i get selected to move on in the process, the academy starts in March. So if they haven't contacted you, my guess is that you got passed over.

01-17-2014, 12:38 AM
Who said an academy starts in March?.... Was this confirmed by HR or is that rumor mill?

Stop spreading rumors douchebag.... You don't know nothing....

01-17-2014, 01:39 AM
What's the process like for certified applicants? Do they process and hire individually or do they wait for entire groups to process together and wait to hire the entire group at once? I don't usually come to forums to get answers, but it seems to be impossible to get through to anybody at MGPD. Does the agency have a recruiter?

I was hoping that's what it meant, the way the letter was written suggested it could go either way. Did you get the same? or are you currently employed with the city and know from experience

01-21-2014, 05:16 PM
I have an upcoming interview. I heard you have to be a Miami gardens resident?

I'm FL certified and just got a call to set up an interview. I didn't get any further info about the process or timeline, so I guess I will wait and see. Anybody else have an upcoming interview? Can anybody else who is ahead in the process give us info on what to expect?

After interview then polygraph, psych, and medical. MGPD is expanding and now is a great time to be a part of the transition. Everyone will have their grips and you will read a lot of negative comments, but trust me things will be moving in the right direction. Come aboard and be a part of the new change.

Anyone get a phone call telling them to come in for the next step yet? This waiting game is terrible

02-04-2014, 01:33 AM
I have quite a few random questions for any current MGPD officers:

What are your patrol shifts and rotations? 8hrs/10hrs/12hrs?

How often do you rotate to another shift? Is it by seniority with a shift bid that goes around?

Does every patrol officer get a take home patrol car? If so, when do you get it? After FTO or after probation?

What's the off duty situation? Is there enough to go around or do you need to know someone to get the hookup? Do you work off duty for the football games at the Sun life or at the casino?

Are there apartments in the area that offer a discount for courtesy officers?

Are advanced training classes generally approved or are there endless excuses as to why you are not approved to attend?

And, I know this is a broad question, but on a "normal day" how is the workload? ie., is there time for proactivity or are you normally running from call to call?

Any answers are greatly appreciated, and feel free to expound on other aspects of the agency. Thank you folks, and be safe.

If you want answers about the PD, why don't you call the PD or Human Resources.

02-04-2014, 07:18 PM
If you want answers about the PD, why don't you call the PD or Human Resources.

Because when you call the PD they say there is no recruiting division or officer and when you call HR they don't know anything about the specifics of the PD. It would be awkward to just call the PD and ask any random person that answers the phone these questions. There is no harm in trying to ask here, on a forum about the PD. Thanks for your assistance. Could you now let me know what I may post in here? I don't know what your specific guidelines are for a forum. You must be a real help out on the street for the citizens.

Even if you call HR about anything related to an application status or any questions they will respond with "we don't discuss any application status in the application process." That's why we post here. if we didn't have this forum, all of us "hopefuls" would be in the dark with no idea whats going on.

02-04-2014, 11:01 PM
Thank you to the person who posted answers. It is much appreciated by myself and others looking for information. I know to some folks who've been on for a little while, the constant questions from wanna-be's can get annoying, but keep in mind you were there once and I'm sure had a bunch of questions yourself. This forum is merely one resource for folks like myself, and the answers we get are very helpful. Again, thank you.

Has anybody received a thank you, but no thank you letter? If so, how long after the interview did you receive it?

Has anyone who interviewed in January received a call yet?

02-12-2014, 07:39 PM
It seems like the hiring process slowed down. I interviewed in December and I only received a letter congratulating me on successfully completing the interview.

Glad to know that im not the only one waiting for a call. When I interviewed, they said that the academy starts in March. So I was getting nervous about the time frame

02-16-2014, 09:41 PM
Have any certified applicants heard back since their interview yet, whether by mail, Email, phone call, etc.?

02-17-2014, 12:02 PM
I haven't heard anything yet, but I am really excited about the possible opportunity to be a part of this agency. Do you guys feel the same way?

02-18-2014, 02:51 AM
This place is so screwed up go somewhere else unless your a loser then join us

02-18-2014, 12:02 PM
41

If this place is so screwed up, then leave! But wait, since you can't even use "your" [you're] in the right context, you probably can't get hired anywhere else. So, you're going to be part of the problem slugs. We are going through some growing pains and changes are happening. If you can't handle change, then this isn't the place for you. You need to be able to adapt to change here and keep your nose out of stuff it shouldn't be into and you'll do fine.

I'm still waiting on the next step. I live in this city and have seen the days when people were scared to come through Miami Gardens because the police force and I know they are in process to get it back. It's sad that most of the crimes in our city are from people that doesn't even stay here or has made Miami Gardens home after being kicked out of the Old Scott's Projects. I wanna be proactive and make my city better. Just trying to be patient.

02-19-2014, 03:10 AM
I have worked at a couple agencies and have found that no matter what, there are going to be people who are unhappy. They are going to think their agency is the worst agency ever. Inevitably they may move on, but then will find themselves hating the new agency and thinking the new agency is the worst. I truly believe this kind of negative attitude is just a personality trait and it's sad that people live like that. I do not currently work there, but I can guarantee there are a lot of agencies that are far worse off then MGPD.

It is said quite often; if you are that unhappy, why not leave?

Can you advise on your timeline? When you applied, when you interviewed, etc. Are you certified or non-certified? If certified, have you worked anywhere else?

Trying to get a feel of whether or not I've been passed up.

I got the same info from HR. I haven't even received a response from my interview that was conducted in January. When I called HR a couple months afterwards, they said everything was on hold due to a search/hire of a new HR director. Then everything was on hold due to the search/hire of a new Chief. I find it odd that they tell me everything is on hold yet I hear of others processing and being hired during this time. Why not just come out and be truthful by telling me I haven't been selected or at least sending me the "thank you, but no thank you, and we wish you well in future endeavors" letter.

you better be black if you want to get hired at Miami Gardens. If you want to get promoted and your white you better go somewhere else, and if you want to be a detective you better be black, pretty much if you're not black don't come to Miami Gardens. Take it from me,. Even the mayor will not acknowledge you unless you're black. We have all felt it..

Hispanic are considered here as white, so they are f***** too..

Hell, you gotta be a certain kind of black apparently as well. If you not down with the lambda lambda lambda bow-tie coalition...you ain't going to DB or getting promoted.

Hello I just graduated the academy and passed the SOCE last month, anybody know if Miami Gardens will be accepting applications from certified candidates anytime soon?
