By city charter the City must have a police department. In order to end the citizens must vote to change the charter.

In your question, the effective denominator is the Palm Beach Sheriff Office! Currently MDPD, the de facto Dade County sheriff office, is afflicted with the same disintegrating political diseases that have brought MPD to its current dilapidation. Presently, MDPD is getting as bad as MPD; it can barely handle its Unincorporated Municipal Service Area constituents’ demands for public safety services. Under “Miami Fire Fee” Gimenez’ cronyism and nepotism regime, it will not be long before MDPD become but a larger reflection of MPD. The only way effective public safety can be brought back, is by citizens launching a citizens’ petition drive to place the elected sheriff question on the November 5, 2014 ballot. “Miami Fire Fee” Gimenez and his political cronies will ardently oppose such citizens’ driven initiative to bring the Florida Constitutionally elected sheriff back to Dade County, but if the people will it, they can do it. Didn’t voters fire (recalled) the arrogant and obstinate Carlos Alvarez from Dade County’s mayor office?

If we examine the public safety services provided by Florida’s other 66 elected county sheriffs, we will learn that through economy of scale, the elected sheriff can and does provide a more efficacious service, not only to the unincorporated areas, but incorporated municipalities which contract the sheriff office. It’s so simple; it makes so much sense, one elected official accountable and responsible for all public safety services in the Dade County, in lieu of 35 political fiefdoms. That is why the political class will fight and obstruct it with all its might!

This is just mental masturbation on your part because the citizens of the city of Miami are not going to vote the police department away in favor of twenty-five minute response times of the brown-gowned clowns.
