Having spent one-third of my Secret Service career supervising bomb detection and disposal activities, I have a particular antipathy towards bombers. The cowardly targeting of innocent citizens at the Boston Marathon is reprehensible.
I am surprised and gratified that the death toll is quite low for a public event of this kind. The bomb maker(s) were apparently amateurs. It was hard to judge from watching the limited video, but it appeared the explosives were "low order" and not placed for maximum effectiveness.
I have great confidence that ATF and the FBI will be very effective in the forensic and latent investigations of this crime.
Incidentally, the response of the First Responders was incredibly good. Training and preparation paid great dividends today in Boston.
