The one juicy tidbit that did come out last night, before the candidates got on stage and said about nothing, was the undersheriff told me, after I asked about it, that 60 percent of the Upper Keys deputies live on the mainland, and the reason for that is two-fold: (1) they and their wives or girlfriends find the Keys boring and there are more fun things to do on the mainland, and their significant others won’t live in the Keys, therefore; and (2) they want to work as deputies in the Keys because being a deputy or police officer on the mainland is a lot more dangerous– gangs, shootouts, robberies, burglaries, etc.

Interested... you bring up a valid point. He feels no friendship at all for any deputies. Regardless of where they work in the county. That's not surprising given all his friends occupy ranks that begin with captain, lieutenant. I have worked at the SO for many years, won't say how many cause then it makes it easier to find me. You would think he has seen me a time or 2 or more. He has handed me a commendation or few. To this day when our paths cross in the grocery store or Home depot or somewhere else, I always say good morning , afternoon or hello. Sometimes I get a weak hi in return. But never any hint that he recognizes me, that I work for him. Scary huh.

I am an adult so it does not bother me, but I do recognize it for what it is.

While I'm at it.....does anyone know if he has a family? you know kids, maybe an ex wife? or is he really the playboy, lack of any commitment kind of guy, he leads many to believe he is?
