View Full Version : How long do deputies have to work before retiring?

Over the last few years, I've seen the same white haired deputy running radar on Beneva Rd. He's been on a motorcycle recently. He looks really old, like he's in his seventies.

How long does a deputy have to work before they're allowed to retire?

He only looks like he is in his seventies. He is actually 39 years old. That's what 11 years of SSO looks like.

Once a deputy reaches the age of 70, he is reassigned to the courthouse as a bailiff and is issued a quad cane to help him "get around."

The bailiff lieutenant is issued a powered wheelchair to help him conserve his strength.

The bailiff captain is issued a seeing eye dog:

to answer you question......25 years in the FL retirement system....and then after you do a *Min* of 25, you come back to work and do a bunch of more years <hint/hint>

The retirement system changed in 2011 for anyone hired after that date.

High risk employees have to work to age 60 or for 30 years, whichever comes first.

Civilians have to work to age 62? Or 32? Years, whichever comes first.

No retirement cola is given for any employment between 2011 and 2017. Inflation is about 4.1 percent, but when you add back in fpod and fuel, inflation is over 11 percent. Food and fuel was removed from inflationary cslculations about 10 years ago.

He is actually 76. He takes multi-vitamins and works out and doesn’t look a day over 65.

About two hours a day at most.
