View Full Version : The Mary Guess Situation

Sgt. Mary Guess is the target of an investigation into allegation she falsified an investigative report. But the present area of concern is how she has not been reassigned or suspended, which is what happens to other deputies and BSO personnel when they are under investigation. This decision, by the sheriff, is causing serious problems within the agency. He may not realize it, but it is also prompting loyal employees to revolt in their own individual ways. The question is what should be done with Guess at this point? This was mishandled from the start, and it can't be ignored any longer.

Should the Governor be contacted? Should an ethics complaint be filed against Guess and the sheriff, or what? FDLE has standards and it is suspicious how an investigator who is accused of such serious things can be expected to have any credibility from this point forward. The sheriff has once again, and for the final time, demonstrated a lack of leadership and ability to manage the agency from a practical and fair position. This is one of many, but he should not seek reelection, and should give serious consideration to tendering his resignation because he has lost control of this department and is out of touch and doesn't even realize it. This agency has taken a lot of hits and black eyes, but but it has never been this bad when members of the command are leaking information and openly critical of a sheriff because he won't listen and refuses the take advice.

What should be done about Guess?

A number of answers, excuses or reasons come to mine. One, the sheriff is way over his head because like most of the command staff at BSO, they have no real law enforcement experience and only know the corrupt way of BSO. Two, the sheriff is thinking like a slug cop who will not answer the radio when called in hoping that the call will just go away if no one responds. Third, the sheriff could not care less about anyone but his handpicked circle of jerks. Maybe someone should provide him with the definition of what a leader is but there is no one there that really cares. BSO has always been a place that once you reach lieutenant, you stop being a law enforcement officer and become a hand puppet. The deputies and citizens do not deserve this. Sheriff you stood by during powertrac and watched corruption ruin careers and never say anything. Not the act of an ethical professional law enforcement officer. You kept all the players in place and now there is proof that they did not have the skill level to move the agency forward. Your choices for key positions were solely based on what was good for you not the agency. Start making your deals now because your pension and your freedom is on the line. You do not have a law degree to fall back upon.

This administration doesn't care about the agency or law enforcement and this is just example that proves it. MG should be suspended immediately. Instead, the IA division is now a laughing stock. Her example will be used to muddy all IA cases from now on. If the sheriff had nothing to hide, he would have taken action and held a press conference to reassure the public and troops' confidence in the agency and the IA process. He had something to hide, that is clear as a swollen thumb.

Heard a grievance has been filed over the lack action taken against Sgt. Guess. Anyone know if this is true and who filed it? I doubt the PBA would do such a thing to a loyal members, like Sgt. Guess.

When you sober up, come back and post something reasonable.
