Really, I hate to think of the low quality of person FHP is going attract in the future. Look at the lower standards we have now. It can only get worse when you offer low pay and no retirement to speak of.

Come on folks. Take a close look at the picture. There is a sheriff or deputy there, the Florida Sheriffs Association, the Florida Chiefs Association, FDLE and others that i can't identify.
The colonel is working as hard as he can for us. Our union could be doing a better job if they hadnt been so one sided during the election. They are begging to get in to see the governor now, but he wont give them the time of day from what I've heard. Its one thing to endorse a candidate and another to attack a candidate, especially the winner!

Colonel Dave Brierton is nothing more then a yes man. If the governor tells him to go outside and stand on his head for 15 minutes everyday at lunch time guess what? You will see Brierton outside of GHQ standing on his head for 15 minutes every day at lunch time.

When have you heard anyone from FHP in a leadership position fighting for pay? Czernis never did, Brierton won't either. Both of them should have been in the news fighting for pay increases for all troopers. I have read and seen video of many sheriffs fighting for their members but never do you here about the FHP colonel fighting for his members.

The last colonel we had that you could read news reports of him fighting for his members was Ron Grimming.

Chris Knight was silent, oh he talked a big game to the members and lied to the members how he had a huge pay increase coming, how it was a done deal, but in the end Chris Knight was just lying from the start because he never had any votes for a pay raise and he was never in the media fighting for us. Czernis followed Knight and he as well was never in the media fighting for us, no instead he got you some stupid toys that for 70 years FHP troopers got along just fine without and now we come to yes man Dave Brierton also known as the ghost. If you think Dave Brierton cares about you they you must be living in fantasy land.

It will be the same people applying. This job requires highschool or a GED. What private sector job are you going to get with higher pay and a pension with no other requirements. There aren't many out there that offer pensions at 19yo right out of highschool. Much less a job that pays 33,000. For many who apply at this age its this or work at the mall for less money. I'm not trying to knock the pride down but with the current requirements the pension is just an added bonus.

The problem is the Sheriff can't be fired. He or she is elected by the people. our colonel serves at the pleasure of the ED/Gov. Of course he isn't going to fight for us. That would mean losing all that DROP $$ after your ass gets fired...It is truly a no win situation for FHP and all state employees for that matter.

Brierton & Julie offered up 500 positions during their budget reduction exercise. The way those retirement announcements have been coming out the past 6 months, I'm sure the Governor will take us up on our offer of at least 250 of those. Scott will say "we just gave you all those DOT Troopers, so you should have enough help to get by". Less government is his focus. Everybody left can expect to work twice as hard, with no pay raise and a 3% pay cut. But, be glad you have a job :lol:
